It's a new year, it's time for some...

...NEW VOTING RULES!

  • To make things a bit more interesting, there is now a maximum of SIX TICKS over the three bits of the poll. That's right - six.

  • The top five will still go through to the next stage, but now it's going to be that little bit tougher to get there. If your favourite song isn't doing so well then try and convince people in the comments as to why it's so good!

  • As I'm sure you all know by now, the rules are always subject to change thx to my ongoing struggle for perfection, so if this year proves agonising for one and all we can rethink it for 2003. Also please bear in mind that I'm the one having to type all these bloody songs out and therefore I can do what I like, mwahahahah.

  • If you want to change your vote (or tick too many by mistake), you can edit your votes by clicking on 'Poll #12345' then 'Fill Out Poll'.

  • You have until Friday lunchtime to vote.

So let's get on with it!

[Poll #1457810]

Q for the comments box: What's the best song up there that you hadn't heard before today?

"Come Fly With Me" will maybe get one tick? Best not open it up to such disrespect in the first place.

I clicked on Poptimists today b/c I really like these polls, and it was a good way of revisiting the decade without missing anything important out. But if "B R Right" can really only muster a handful of ticks...I really, really don't even want to see these results.

The "Ain't It Funny" remix is also one of my favourite summer jams ever and another one I thought was an all-time classic. But, what's the point.

But that one tick is worth 167% of an old, pre-2002 tick! :)

If it's any comfort at all, I make an effort to listen to just about everything that gets nominated (and assemble the Spotify playlists) and have discovered a number of tracks I really like this way, many of them favourites of yours.

The results aren't really the point, for me, so much as the survey and the overview. Without an entire community pledge to listen hard to every nomination, recognition is going to count for a lot, so big names will dominate - and with a wide constituency voting, consensus choices will tend to actually win.

The British-centric nature of this community is bad news for much of the hip-hop and rap (and to a lesser extent, RnB) you are into, as only a subset of that becomes anywhere near as famous over here. I mean, "B R Right" didn't even chart here, I'd never heard of Trina before these polls and I doubt I'm alone. She's good! But you have a hill to climb in terms of simple recognition.

Pop is a broad church, for some people including unwashed indie rock, who are probably looking at you just as sideways for nominating gritty harsh rap tracks.

We could hold a special RnB/rap/hip-hop etc. only poll if you like?
