If you had written a big piece on pop in the 00s, and you wanted a title - probably a lyric from a 00s song - what would you choose?

P!nk -- "Could've Had Everything"

Ashlee -- "When I hit the bottom -- CRASH -- You're all I have"

Lily -- "The Future Looked Bright"

Somone in my comments suggest a Brie Larson song, "Life After You" but it could be confused for the Daughtry song (also pop, I s'pose).

Marit -- "Our little castle was a house of cards"

The Marit one's probably the best of those.

Hm, apparently the lyric is "Our little castle IS a house of cards," can't tell if that's better or worse. I like the past tense for a retrospective, and anyway it seems like the song's perspective is after the fall, so to speak, and it's hard to tell what exactly she's actually saying ("is" or "was") anyway.

Boom and bust! Bubble and burst! Your hot then you're cold, you're yes then you're no! You're up then you're down, you're populist then you're...uh, niche specialist. Y'know.

(And yes, I've certainly hijacked your piece pretty thoroughly while having about zero clue, or maybe 1.2 clues, of what's actually in it. But it was fun, damn it!)

The decade in pop was like Shakira's breasts? IT ALL MAKES SENSE....

B-b-b-but...these are mountains! Not mere mortal breasts! (Yes, it nicely gets the scope of 00's pop and simultaneously the odd turn of those expectations through the decade, which haven't been so much erased as...modified, though a serious of, er, slight reductions here and there. I'll drop the metaphor now, thanks.)
