Cheers erupt from the J-Lo fanclub as she squeezes into the final behind Outkast, Eve & Gwen, Missy and Mis-teeq. Sophie E-B on the other hand is wiping her tears on Dude from The Feeling's velvet jacket sleeve.

On to heat #6, which is absolutely banging in my opinion, but who will make it through?

Early Lil' Jon; it may not be Get Low, but it is ROWDY AND AWESOME. (And the video is kind of hilarious! Plus there is an E-40 CAMEO = 10 PLUS BONUS POINTS.)



And on a completely different tip, some Morr Music weenietronica: this is possibly my favourite Lali Puna track ever, it's absolutely gorgeous.




(Also, I'd like to publicly take credit for casting the deciding J-Lo vs. SEB fite vote for the last heat; under other circumstances the Ellis-Bext would have been as solid a tick for me as the J-Lo, but with both tied for 5th I had to make AN CHOICE. Anyway, my actual fave Read My Lips single is up in 2002, so no great harm done!)

Best thing about the alb this is the title track for: buried at the deep end, after an albumful of the expected Lil Jon signature crunk, there is suddenly this INSANE hip-house anthem! I was considering putting it up for nomination as well, but the 10-track restrictions forbid it in the end, alas.

I was just listening to the Ying Yang Twins' Alley from 2002 and it also holds up very well - is Collipark rather than Lil Jon, which means fewer gang shouts, and Collipark sometimes pulls off a move that I've yet to figure out: will give you a mass of sound or whole gaggle of sounds yet somehow will make one little bit stand out in stark relief, as if it's standing mysteriously in an empty plain. (My description is probably unintelligible.) Meanwhile the Twins are raucous, hilarious, aggressive, as you'd expect, and the sound finds its way to dark melodies that seem to have nothing to do with the music's official rah-rah-rah.
