Cheers erupt from the J-Lo fanclub as she squeezes into the final behind Outkast, Eve & Gwen, Missy and Mis-teeq. Sophie E-B on the other hand is wiping her tears on Dude from The Feeling's velvet jacket sleeve.

On to heat #6, which is absolutely banging in my opinion, but who will make it through?

"Pop"

I thought then - and I think now - that this single was a confused ugly mess.

Yep. No ticks from me; I've never really grasped where the tune is meant to be -some of my *NSync-loving friends (and I am certainly a lover of the 'Sync, don't get me wrong) consider it to be their canonically finest moment tho. Possibly because of the extreme militant pop message? I think it is a bit rub, anyway, and has Justin being a c0ck all over it too much.

Well also the ENACTMENT of Justin's "militant pop message" was "split up the band and spend rest of decade chasing urban respectability".

Actually that bit is a proper Service To Pop.

A fine enactment tbh!

I don't dislike 'Pop', but then I don't really LOVE much N*Sync so their self-conscious weirdo moves don't grate as much. In this particular heat, though, it was never in the running for a tick.

I don't think I really LOVE any N'Sync - "Girlfriend" would be a 7 or 8 and that's as good as it gets.

"I Want You Back" runs pretty close to a 10 from me, docked to 9.5 I guess for being slightly surpassed by "Everybody (Backstreet's Back)." "Tearing Up My Heart" is a 9.0, closest Justin ever got to sounding freestyle (though actually he really has gotten a lot better as a singer; was the song's that carried him in the early days).

But you're right about "Pop," it's dry and darn near tuneless.

my tick is primarily for the lick pop bootleg that uses pop for the background with lick shots over the top...

it is deffo an confused mess though, but not ugly...

Yes, mess. Too much other stuff in this heat is way better.
