Missy Elliott gets the highest turnout of the decade so far, with a whopping 49 votes to win heat #3. Daft Punk, S Club 7 and Mary J Blige are safely through, but Alicia and DanBed tie for fifth - see below for the run-off.

Today's poll sees double J-Lo remix action, microgoth, mashups, possible incest and the Jackson Five (sort of). It's heat #4, everybody!

  • You get a maximum of TEN TICKS over the three bits of the poll. The top five will go through to the next stage.

  • If you want to change your vote (or tick too many by mistake), you can edit your votes by clicking on 'Poll #12345' then 'Fill Out Poll'.

  • UK chart placings given in brackets.

  • You have until Friday lunchtime to vote.

  • Rep for your favourites in the comments! Youtube embeds very welcome.

Could you say more about them, as I had previously not known they'd existed. "Catch" is the only one that caught me enough on a few listens to get me to tick it; their nominated tracks do the light/dark thing but the dark trips up the light too much. (That's what I think so far. But they are new to me.)

Early 2000s fairly commercial dance, leaning into D&B in places from what I remember. Catch is easily the best thing they've done; Hide U I am mainly associating with memories from the time, rather than any degree of quality - I was not into commercial dance as much then (it was my indie/Ninja Tune/awkward-electronica phase, still), and now I look back at this thinking I would have enjoyed it at the time.

S/a lot/2, by the way - I thought I'd have ticked none, but I've definitely ticked two so far. That's all, really.

'Resist' is this beautiful, slightly broken soundscape between almost-rave and deep introspection. They're sort of ...emotive dance? I mean, all dance music is emotive really.

The dark is an important part of Kosheen, I think it's why I like them so much. Basically, it's all rather pretty and deep'n'meaningful if it catches you at the right moment in time.

Jumping forward a number of years, I think they nailed the dark better than ever on several tracks off couple-years-back Damage. 'Marching Orders' in particular; BLOODY HELL what a choon. (They weren't very dancey any more by that album, of course, but repeat listens made me conclude this wasn't necessarily a bad! I just had to get used to it first, heh.)
