How had I totally forgotten this? Obviously not totally, but seriously, yes. I miss Pharrell being more interested in the Neptunes than in NERD or, even worse, his solo career.

As so often with the Neptunes productions from this point, that drum beat is all about the kick/snare sound, and the fact they're not swung. Only just realising how much of the Neptunes' sound, in fact, comes down to resisting swing.
