Britney, Sugababes, Daft Punk and Daphne & Celeste are all safely through, with DMX just scraping in to join them at the last minute.

You know the drill by now - you have until Friday to vote on this lovely lot...

  • You get a maximum of TEN TICKS over the three bits of the poll. The top five will go through to the next stage.

  • If you want to change your vote (or tick too many by mistake), you can edit your votes by clicking on 'Poll #12345' then 'Fill Out Poll'.

  • UK chart placings given in brackets.

  • Rep for your favourites in the comments!

I have a Pantera t-shirt my friend John got me at Download; I nearly wore it to work this morning before I remembered it has FVCKING HOSTILE written in big letters across the back...

Weird pickings this time.

This is the unacceptable face of the year 2000. Struggled to 10, almost all my ticks (aside from Destiny's Child who will get through anyway) are persuadable onto other tracks.

On the positive side I never thought that A1's excellent boyband hit would stand a real actual chance of qualifying.

My initial ticking revealed 6 definites, I'll go back through and refresh my memory on some of these at lunch. I'm really pulling for "Sandstorm" and "Pull Over" this time.

WTF? There are a ton of amazing tracks here! I had about 13 I wanted to tick and in the end had to untick All Saints, Jill Scott, N&G and Moloko...but there are some all-time classic joints here. Trina! The LOX! MJ Cole! Darude! Three 6 Mafia!

And oh shit I missed 'Sandwiches'. AGH. Need to find something else to untick.

You'll have to remind me of Trina. MJ Cole was always just that little bit too smooth for me to really like him. The others I ticked. All I meant is that only a cpl of things here leaped out as "OMG MUST TICK" rather than "yea, good track". "Unacceptable" may have been too strong but let's not forget this heat includes Rage Against The Machine.

Most overrated pop hit ever

Fucking 'Reach'. Always hated it, always hated when it came on at student nights in the middle of actually great pop hits and completely harshed my buzz. Just unnecessarily Blue Peter-like and jaunty. POP SHOULD NOT BE KIDS' TV, PEOPLE.

If more people tick RATD than ATDI from the last heat then I am going to be VERY UPSET.

Frank posted Trina yesterday! (Albeit the orcs video someone has set it to is rather disturbing.) And I'm pretty sure I put it on the Spotify playlist. It's one of her classics - "number 10 in the face, slim in the waist, fat in the ass, do you want a taste?" Plus, WHOOP WHOOP!

There's been crap in all the rounds and I doubt RATM will get as close to qualifying as some of the previous crap. Why are Primal Scream here AGAIN??

Ah yes, I admit I didn't click on the orcs.

Yeah I actually agree with this. Not about pop not being Kids TV really, I don't care about that, but just about "Reach". Of course I've played it at weddings, but then I've played The La's at weddings.

I'll be nominating S Club Jr's "Automatic High" though when its time comes.

I bought this on historic music format unlikely to receive a retro-fashionable revival CASETTE TAPE for £1.49 in historical high street store whose empty husks are being preserved to remember what happens when you get rid of the cups for Pick'n'Mix WOOLWORTHS. That'll be one to confuse the kids one day.

Anyway, it is bl00dy amazing; as Trevor Nelson said at the time, no one even clocked it was a gospel song and from that flirty little bassline that's clearly going to buy you a drank to the lilty summeriness of the whole thing it is 1x AWESOME JAM.

I think I thought it was about S&M at the time. o_0

Trina covered upthread, and by [livejournal.com profile] koganbot yesterday, and is on Spotify. Terrific Miami hip-house beat, Trina delivering one of the all-time finest ho-rap swagger performances, she's just unstoppable on it. DUMPS IN THE TRUCK, THIGHS LIKE WHAT, AIN'T NANN HO GOT MO BOOTY IN THE BUTT! Possibly the best song of the round.

The LOX and Eve. Terrific menacing Timbaland beat, "I rock the icy-ass chain with the earring in my tongue"; this probably didn't start the whole "ride or die" ethos but it's one of the first I remember, and I'm a sucker for that combination of romance and danger.

Three 6 Mafia - DIRTY SOUTH REPRESENT. One of my favourite Three 6 cuts ever and come on you have to tick it b/c it gave our good friends at So Many Shrimp their name!!

Mystikal - just CRAZY, that rigid, disciplined beat and acres of space acting as a straitjacket for lunatic Mystikal threatening to bust out of it at any time. Ahhh, when Pharrell wasn't annoying...

From: [identity profile] piratemoggy.livejournal.com
Would sacrifice my Pantera tick (since altho song is worthy, I doubt it's a contender) for Ryde Or Die, which is very good but was listening to the former this morning and remembered how much fancied Phil Anselmo at this point.

People not ticking 'Shake Ya Ass' are WRONG.

I used to love this Idlewild album when I was in college, but always preferred "Actually It's Darkness".
