A note for new Poptimists: Winner Stays On is a pop duel where two relatively current songs fight it out for yr love. The winner lives to fight another day, the loser is lost to the pallid embrace of history.

Robyn is currently the Winner who stays on, winning by a couple of tenths of a point over Ladytron. For today's match we have a real actual NEW RECORD, in the form of Beyonce's "Check On It", which also features Slim Thug (and whose newness is questionable as it was a bonus track on Destiny's Child's #1s album). Are we sick of Robyn yet? Has Bouncy still got it? Vote here:

[Poll #646703]

"But I haven't heard the songs yet! you cry. Full members of Poptimists should keep their eyes on their flists, watchers and lurkers will have to hear the tunes on the radio or vote on prejudice alone, or something.

i'm voting on principle. 'check on it' is the better song anyway, but beyonce's existence is a better thing than robyn's.

everyone who votes robyn as better is irredeemably indie.

Who's made you laugh more in the past five years? Alex In NYC or Steve Martin? Exactly.

I do enjoy The Lex's opinions on music, especially indie on which I acknowledge he has great expertise. Obviously I'm not foolish enough to actually take any of these opinions seriously, but they are top entertainment.

I hate to be dumb and all, but like, have the polls closed, or is there, like, some special trick to voting, or is there something Zen in clicking on "Fill Out Poll" and not finding any way to fill out the poll, or what? (Assuming that 9 is high and 1 is low, Robyn gets a 9 for being more punk, while Beyonce gets a mere 7 (though in real life she'd get a 7.5) for being devoid of emotion, as she has been in every song of hers except for that one time she let loose and compromised her Christianity by claiming she wasn't compromising her Christianity. You know, she's as pointlessly blasé as Janet Jackson, though with better songs (usually) and more intricate intricacies. But anyhow, why can't I figure out how to vote?

I think you might be needing an LJ account to vote, Frank. (Unless you don't.)

But if you think Beyonce really has better songs than prime-era Janet Jackson, maybe it's best that you don't ;)

Of course the one with the highest standard deviation is declared the winner, right? (In my day we did average deviation and called it "controversy ratings" of which I was the inventor!

Oh. "Open to All" obviously merely means "Open to All" rather than "Open to All."

Also, I'm getting tired of Slim Thug, even if I did once think that "Like a Boss" was the boss.
