Pink is still at #1, MIA is still at #21, and after a fortnight of plenty this week's new entries are returning to a mere handful...
[Poll #1277707]
Baffling re-entry watch: Cyndi Lauper is in there at no.90 with 'True Colors'! Any ideas why?
Later on today I might post a round-up of the AYIP results for the year so far - remember you can go back and tick something in any of the polls, just click on the 2008 tag. If you want to untick something that's fine too! Click on the poll link (where it says e.g. 'Poll #39517958') then click 'Fill Out Poll' towithdraw that erroneous Katy Perry tick change your answers.

I should investigate Lauper's recent album tho - includes productions by B Jaxx, Dragonette AND Kleerup

Date: 2008-10-13 12:03 pm (UTC)Patrol: Yeah, it's alright this actually! It doesn't sound much like the Snow Patrol until it gets to the (really LONG!) chorus - the verse sounds more like... Talking Heads? Or maybe Bryan Ferry? I dunno. It's better than the Chiefs and it's not soul-crushingly depressing but not worth a tick either.
Sparks: I have a nagging feeling this was already released here, but I couldn't find it on a cursory glance at the 2008 polls. Anyway, I still don't like it much.
Courteeners: If the rest of this week wasn't so dreadful I might appreciate how ridiculous this is - Playschool guitar riff and a big-faced man looking sad and trying to be Morrissey. But OH MY GOD is this really the best we can do? Fvck me I might start a band right now and put everyone out of their misery. (NB not really).

Date: 2008-10-13 02:25 pm (UTC)I always find this sort of thing (chart slow burners and long-term hangers on) interesting. Shame the records in question are nearly always a bit meh.

Date: 2008-10-13 12:50 pm (UTC)Jordin Sparks wasn't too far away, especially considering how much I despise 'No Air'. It starts off strongly but has a crap slushy chorus, so just missed out.
Courteeners was never in it.

Date: 2008-10-13 01:12 pm (UTC)Kaiser Chiefs "Never Miss A Beat": Every day I like them less and less. I mean, their jokes used to be funny. But they're still catchy. BORDERLINE TICK.
Snow Patrol "Take Back The City": Earnest, glum mediocrity. NO TICK.
Jordin Sparks "Tattoo": Caramel coating on a voice that resolutely says it's not regretful, while conveying pang after pang of regret. TICK.
The Courteeners "That Kiss": Character actor, rumpled and draggy, reflects wistfully on brief, discarded dalliance. NO TICK.
