not worth checking lex -- it was a little side-issue flurry during a not-very-interesting hot-day-innit squabble abt punk and technique, where mariah was (as she always is) thrown up as the "at least we can all agree to hate ms technique-over-soul" candidate for kneejerk comity

ugh I hate it when that happens. people - british people especially - can be so sour and stupid when it comes to people who rveel in ACTUALLY BEING GOOD AT SOMETHING.

The annoying thing is that Mariah's two actual future appearances on Popular - "Without You" and that wretched Westlife one - are easily my least favourite things I've ever heard by her.

Oh god really? The Westlife one is really bad; I really like her 'Without You' (much more than the original) but it wouldn't even make a Mariah POXX.

I don't know if I really want to know how well or badly 'Vision Of Love', 'Emotions', 'Always Be My Baby', 'Heartbreaker' and 'Can't Let Go' did...god, by rights she should be aiming for the No 1s record here as well as in the US.

She hasn't exactly done badly though - I think only Madonna & Kylie have had more top 10 hits than her over here amongst female soloists
