DISCO KING CALVIN HARRIS COMING TO YOUR CITY THIS SPRING 2008!

Pops most acclaimed Scot shall be bringing us his deviant disco sounds with a debut East/West coast tour this Spring.

Let's have a poll!

[Poll #1150309]

(Apologies to the Calvin Harris fans on Pmists.)

Encountered problems with these two - they are in fact CORRECT, but also symptomatic of an ERRONEOUS world!

"Harris is set to be a mainstay for some time to come" - BIG SHOT
"This is an indie rocker introducing great disco to a bunch of beer drinkers, and if that's not God's work, then what is" - BLENDER

(I do quite like a Pack/CH mash-up that the Hood Internet did though.)

Oh I dunno, I reckon he'll be in the "where are they now?" file in a year or so.

The most erroneous statement is the one after "about". The ones in the poll are just funny by comparison.

yeah I was OTMing the Blender one until I got to the God's work bit and I temporarily LOST IT and NEARLY SCREAMED. though as an atheist maybe I should be fine with it!

kind of proud of the Grau on this one: http://arts.guardian.co.uk/filmandmusic/story/0,,2097651,00.html

I never actually heard the album so going thru the iTunes clips now. production is generally bog-standard rather than downright terrible but the vocals seem to ruin most tracks more in terms of how they actually sound and the unimaginative lyrics.

'Neon Rocks', 'Disco Heat' (the one that led to Kylie's far better 'In My Arms' presumably) and 'Certified' all had potential but yeah, between 'Darkdancer' and 'The Warning' and dozens of other better albums in that vein this is pointless.

I'm having problems with the "Calvin Harris represents what's good about electronic music" statement. So what do they think usually isn't good about it? What do they think the other electronic music is missing?

Also, if a review describes a record as having a sense of humour, I tend to take that as a warning. A bit like when somebody tries to sell a friend of theirs to me with "Oh, you'd love them, they're so crazy!". Alarm bells.

especially if it's "MAKES DAFT PUNK LOOK LIKE THEY DON'T HAVE A SENSE OF HUMOUR" --- eep! colin hunt plastic dog poo and hand-buzzer alert!

You missed the bit where this already happened. 20 years ago. Tsk.

Easy to answer even if I've never heard the blasted thing.

1: 1) "more than irresistible fun-synth pop" ie irresistible fun-synth pop is insufficient somehow? Whereas what isn't?
2: 5) "what's good about electronic music" ie electronic music needs qualification to be judged on par with other music, or do you do this about any means of production?
3: 9) "It's that good... and more" ie UOPP.

Standard poptimist grudges I know, just felt the need to spell it out once I'd voted.
