A specially mixed bag on this category which attempted to replace last year's unsatisfactory genre of the year. This mix of new genres, dubious developments and personal pleasures does a little better though!

Emo:
"Pete Wentz is teh hott"
The kids on the Myspace say
Like I'd really know.

Indie getting less rockish?
Klaxons won a prize
With clumsy rave Frankenstein
What next? Afropop?

Minimal:

I read as much in the Graun.

Pop stars going nuts
Britney in a wig
Amy living it far too big
Throw them in the brig!

I am slightly wary of this trend as I can't think of *that* much evidence.

Hoosiers: writing catchy pop songs! There is nothing wrong with them at all!
Bloc Party: last single was based around a bibbly trance synth (boring vocal melody but at least they are making an effort!)
Maccabees: new song = back to their best (phew!) and is very sweet pop without being kitchen sink-y
Klaxons: well I've gabbed on about this interminably - right idea, poor execution.

HOWEVER there is still much work to be done. I blame FOLK!

is that the bloc party 'flux' track. i have never noticed BP before except as the name of a band. then i caught this the other day on the radio. v like.

I started getting back into indie two months ago and the first thing I noticed was that everyone seems to be bored of guitars. (This is prolly more the post-Devendra East Coast scene though.)
