It's Thursday, it's 2'o'clock, it's time for the Now poll. The series reaches surely its lowest ebb with Now 6, and evidence of penny-pinching abounds with minor hits and follow-ups all over the shop. Luckily those old faithfuls UB40 and Phil are around to 'steady the ship'. Did they ever team up? It seems inconceivable that they didn't and yet I can't remember - or my brain won't let me.

It has to be admitted that the 'bookies' have a clear favourite this time, but then the bookies certainly wouldn't have tipped Katrina and The Waves to beat out the competition on Now 5. Jimmy Nail seems to have attracted most of the DAILY HATE.

Comments, complaints, love letters to Baltimora, and musings on the impossibility of love across the iron curtain in the comments box, please.

Eurythmics shd win this. It is their best song.

I also own "Fried Chicken", KT Bush, Siouxsie, Cameo. And Feargal is "on tape". All are good.

I am hanging on for the late 80s NOWs, where it all starts to cheer up again...

Also, the point at which Simple Minds became indefensibly awful.

'Miami Vice Theme' was my favourite song on Now 6 at the time. During car journeys to Tamworth to visit grandparents we would fast forward the tape to it but often misjudge and have to endure the closing 30 seconds of Paul Hardcastle.

'Tarzan Boy' and 'Body Rock' obv. ace although I suppose 'Running Up That Hill' IS the best on here.

Trouble with 'Alive and Kicking' is that it got overused in adverts and football montages and the like for the next 10 years...

Really? I would have put their on-the-brink point at Sparkle In The Rain, with DYFAM being a one off semi-successful attempt at anthemic AOR glitch. This is well over the edge into big bad gusty bollocks.

well again i remember hating it at the time despite liking all other FYC songs. and when i looked at the list i thought well at least the Marillion song makes me laugh.

Oooh, I can see the EUROBOSH treatment working well here, especially if Jim Kerr's voice is replaced by that of an anonymous German lass. Any chance of a YSI?

The UB40 song is about Ali Campbell being AN STALKER (as pointed out by M Carlin one time if by no-one else) and is creepy as fcuk.

When I found out Elton was gay I didn't believe it. 'But what about Nikita?!' I exclaimed. Obv. I was also too young and naive to realise she was only planning to marry him to get UK citizenship.

"overblown" is the word which led to the first EVER USE of "use other words plz" (the other words jimmy the mod used = "blow me")
