Did you get to the chorus?

I can sort of understand people who aren't British or used to how British voices actually sound liking Kate Nash, her tunes are OK, but the lyrics on this one are SO inane that I think it's amazing she's getting any ticks. Maybe it's the rollerskating robots.

No, no I didn't. The combination of lyrics and voice was too skincrawlingly awful. I can definitely see why people would like Foundations -- if you take away her fvcking appalling singing and the lemons/bitter/friends/fitter bit and the bit about sick it's a pretty good song -- but, yeah, this is just bafflingly terrible.

I was determined to get all the way through it just to...at least know my enemy. I got to 1 minute and 13 seconds in. HOW CAN ANYONE STAND THE BANALITY OF HER LYRICS/THE FUCKING INFANTILE GRADE ONE PLINK PLONK OF HER HORRIBLE KEYBOARD/HER FUCKING FUCKING NAILS ON BLACKBOARD VOICE SERIOUSLY HOW?????

I can't think of a worse lyricist offhand, we all know bad lyrics but they're usually bad because the writer has tried to overreach themselves and fallen on their face, I can't think of anyone with the fucking temerity to try to pass these BORING, UNFUNNY, NON-INSIGHTS off as pop or art and then to look and sound so fucking pleased with themselves for it.

Am I the only one who thinks the song is kinda funny? (Saying its lyrics are stupid seems to be missing the point a bit! Like, "here are some things about me: I have a face. I use mouthwash and sometimes floss. I have a family." Not going to claim this is BRILLIANT or anything, but it was good for a superficial chuckle...) Lyrically it actually reminded me a bit of Hilary Duff's "Dreamer," in which she sarcastically says, "I brush my teeth and walk my dog, isn't that interesting?" Some dumbass stuff about "disabling her body" or whatever, but eh.

I didn't have any problem getting through it at all, found it kind of enjoyable, really. Don't see how her plinky piano is considerably different from anyone else's plinky piano. But I also haven't spotted a "phony" British accent since Dick Van Dyke in Mary Poppins.

But the mundanity in 'Dreamer' has a really specific point, because Hilarity's addressing her stalker, someone prying into her everyday life, so she's saying "HERE IT IS NOW GO AWAY". With Nash you're just like, you have spots. And? So? Why on earth should I care? Plus, Nash acts very stage school precocious, which isn't a bad thing in itself, but most pop stars who act like that have some sort of really obvious talent or presence, whereas you've got Nash sitting there expecting applause for literally NOTHING.

The message in Nash seems to be something like, you can't get to me cos I am me (even if me is banal) - banality of the everyday protecting against the seismic of the un-everyday. This is the message of "The Day Before You Came" too in a way so maybe I should like it, but you sir are no day before etc etc.

I have been trying to think of an American equivalent of how KN sings and I really can't. The closest I could get to is if Tallulah, from the last series of Dr Who, made a record about brushing her teeth in her terrible fourth-hand Noo Yoik accent, but that was a Brit pretending to be an American.

Might it be a bit like K-Fed rapping? Anyway, I think I understand the extra visceral kick Gnash has for Brits. And re: Lex's comment, I wouldn't say that Kate is doing the random everyday thing very *well*, I just mean that without noticing the accent much, the words strike me as much fluffier and insignificant (and just kind of weird) than any great agitation over them might suggest.
