[Poll #1049946]

Apologies if your nomination didn't make it to the Top Ten - I tried to stick to UK artists wherever possible. Voting will close at the end of the week.

EDIT: The voting criteria have been left deliberately ambiguous. Vote as you see fit: best, worst or 'most indie'? It's up to you.

I've voted for my favourite band, but perhaps that was not the correct criterion in light of the title of the poll, viz. I should have voted for the WORST therefore I move my vote to Kate Nash.

Yes come on everyone vote for The Terminally Banal Kate Nash. Actually, no everyone vote for The View!

I must confess I am TORN between those very two nominees! It's a good thing we have all week to think about and debate this one.

I really would like to encourage everyone to vote for the appalling The View. I nominated differently and still voted for them when I saw it was an option.

That was my reading of the poll, which is why I nominated the View in the first place!

So who IS that guy who I nominated, the one with dreadlocks and a nacoustic guitar whose terminally dreary cover of Portishead is being advertised on the telly every time I flipping switch it on? Is his name Nathan something?

Newton Faulkner, do you mean? He crossed my mind when nominating but I don't think he's done enough yet for Indie to be shortlisted. And he could turn out to be another Jack Johnson rather than another Twang. Maybe next year though?

AH yes that's the one. I think it's just his ubiquity at the moment - EVERY SINGLE S0DDING TIME I TURN THE TELLY ON, like I say. I have no idea what he's done or how successful he's been, I just know that it's the kind of music that makes me want to chuck a brick at the telly...

SHURELY you have seen his gurning bedreadlock'd face on yr tellybox? Hmph.

WHICH IS THE SINGLE WORST COVER VERSION IN THE WORLD EVER. I'm surprised it wasn't on that Radio 1 compilation.

Oh bvmboats, not Portishead at all then. No wonder Kat was confused.

New album. Slipped by completely unnoticed. I have the album on my desk and still haven't listened to it. I imagine they are concentrating on Germany and other parts of the world where they are huge(ish).

We are voting as to which is worst, y/y? If not I retract my vote for The Twang.

I am ignoring Kate Nash as she is not INDIE. She is POP.

Once that Red Herring is dealt with, it's clear that The Pigeon Detectives, the Catchy But Obnoxious and Right Wing Reverend And The Makers, and The View head up the standings.

And given the View are clearly the most successful and the least talented, by a considerable margin, they're going down.

(Three and a half artists I'd say I definitely liked here).

I've always taken this poll to be an assessment of neither good nor bad, but precisely how vexing the act is seen from the Lex's worldview.

The Twang get a vote just because they've amused me the most this year. Twang highlight: seeing them sat on some crates outside a gate at Glastonbury looking a bit forlorn, because they couldn't get in to do their set. I think they were let in eventually.

Eeeeewwwwwwwwww.

I voted for Mark Ronson b/c his music may be terrible but he is fit and I would totally do him.

I have a horrible feeling that people are voting for Art Brut b/c they actually like them.

Was thinking of voting for the Klaxons as they actually have at least one song I like (an cover version that you disapprove of, iirc) and would rank high on criterion of "annoying Lex," but Art Brut got the vote finally 'cause of an actual good single that reminds me a lot of the Fall, which is to say obstreperously (sp?) emphatic in a way that gets into a groove. The first Art Brut album pretty much puzzled me, which means I should give it a relisten. Think there's a knack for tunesmanship and a knack for shooting himself in the foot; the recent single forgot to shoot itself, hence got on the good foot.

whats this poll supposed to conclude or achieve if we dont actually know why we're voting, and are all voting different things (and the same things) for different reasons?

It determines that someone shall earn 20p! Science will out.

(The "results viewable to none" option on this poll was a bit pointless really wasn't it? In the interests of full disclosure, therefore, please note I cast my vote for Ms Nash in the end.)
