Anyway - this is a very strange compilation - about 50/50 split between actual 'driving music' (ie Dadrock as it is Dads Who Be Doing The Driving) and power ballads. I mean, that Foreigner song is amazing but why is it on here and not eg Chris Rea's 'Road To Hell'? Surely the latter is a mandatory inclusion on All Driving Albums Ever?

I was just thinking the same thing: power ballads != driving music. And The Cars' Drive is neither, despite the name.

I find the whole thing rather depressing. There are probably 13 "any good at all" songs here, but... pfffft botherd.

For me, 'driving music' = always American, specifically songs for cruising the California highways to. Stuff like "The Boys of Summer", Fleetwood Mac's "Gypsy" and so on.

Indeed. Which is why I thought this might be interesting poll fodder. Obv the compilation is trying to cash in on two markets, but to avoid alienating each half has left off traditional genre exponents (e.g. Eagles for your highway driving, Cher for ridiculous canon-striding), leaving a curious mixture.

Driving music = owt bombastic. Which makes the inclusion of Merith less puzzling nad the inclusion of Sinead v. perplexing.
