apart from his eternal attempt to second-guess, and miss by a mile because of his own weird projected psychosis, what 'popism' might be about, is there ever any point to any of his popism-centric articles?

The point is to get approving noises from his cronies and wannabes. He'd say the same about Kogan I'm sure.

HAAA and what do I find on reynoldsblog but:

"refreshing the parts that 1001 pop(tim)ists can't reach -- kpunk on timber-s land and lake"

link to terrible terrible "this and rihanna is the only chart music i've heard in a year" out-of-touch piece on justin

it's entirely about social class and the consequent chip on his shoulder as far as I can tell.

Throughout that piece ad hominem attacks on posh people keep popping up in really tenuous places (and constant Burchillesque blowing-own-trumpet boasting about being working class).

i'm in agreement with lex here, it rly is kneejerk "[livejournal.com profile] freakytigger and [livejournal.com profile] dubdobdee and [livejournal.com profile] byebyepride* went to public school = all popists are toffs" isn't it?

*not that i'm calling mark or alex popists, but i'm pretty sure k-punk is

I honestly doubt that k-punk knows who I am!

as a comprehensive boy who went to cambridge, i find the way he uses "public school" and "oxbridge" interchangeably quite annoying too.

I think it's more like Kogan used a trigger word. Like there were times in my history where someone could be saying whatever they wanted but if they used the words "Liz Phair" I would blog about it. "Class" is the one here.

That's the problem - unless I've totally misread Frank's recent columns, he's been careful to avoid a strict definition of class, at its most specific the word merely describes 'certain stereotypically-viewed groups of people' rather than focusing on 'age' (or middle/lower or public/comprehensive). I understand that k-punk hasn't read all of the columns so perhaps he missed out on this pre-amble.
