Way back at the end of July, you voted Frankie Lymon & The Teenagers the pick of '56, with 'Why Do Fools Fall In Love' gathering 18 ticks. Fast forward 48 years to the death throes of Pop Idol and the birth of McFly. Ladies and gents: 2004!

No it is the great rub Busted number one - it is an emo ballad but not even as good as that suggests.

I really like 'Who's David!'

Then again, I am quite emo I suppose.

I will actually untick it if so, it is so vastly overrated.

This was a great year!

- Britney's best single. Also her, like, 10th best single. For some odd reason most people confused these two
- 'Yeah!' "Take that - and rewinf it back; Ludacris got the flow to make your booty go *CLAP*"! Arguably one of the most IMPORTANT singles of the year as it gave us the endlessly brilliant crunk'n'b - Britney's collab with the Ying Yang Twins on her album was awesome but 'Yeah!' was the first big commercial hit, and Ciara took it to the next level a few months later - it's defined r&b ever since
- 'Baby Cakes', a strange and beautiful random throwback to the golden age of 2-step
- 'I Don't Wanna Know' (and the Shola Ama-led reply) are really heartbreakingly lovely ballads, both sung as if through fog, both parties pleading but knowing that the other has made their mind up and isn't listening

On the negative side

- 'Dry Your Eyes' was the song which finally convinced me that Mike Skinner was a total cunt who needed his face stamped on forever
- 'Just Lose It'...you couldn't even hate Eminem for it b/c it was so obviously meant to be shit (and then 'Ass Like That' was even worse!!!)

It starts RLY BADLY and then suddenly gets awesome. I am slightly disappointed at low scores all round so far apart from canonic Toxic. Also disappointed (but not surprised) that I am the only person who recognises the odd greatness of "Radio".

No, I love "Radio" - but it's so un-Robbie-ish, it feels weird ticking it. I don't want to, seeing his name, but I know the song and it's really quite good.

Yeah, I mean, it's not very good, but it's brainless summery pop. With an only slightly offensive reggae thing going on.

By contrast, Eamon, Frankie, and the Band Aid 20 are absolute stinkers of the highest order.

I really am the only person in the whole world who really really HATES Natasha Bedingfield, aren't I?

It's a good song apart from the bits where Natasha a) sings, or b) shows off her lyrical "skillz". I actually LOVE the dun-dun-DUN bits but having her on the song ruins the whole thing.

Read some Byron, Shelley and Keats. Recited it over a Hip. Hop. Beat.

The way that "punchline" thuds into your brain still makes me cringe three years on.

i totally wasn't concentrating on the 'which is best' - as that's obvious. however. i love me some busted, and toxic would walk it anyways.

Really poor selection IMHO.

Good: Toxic obvs, Eminem, Eric Prydz, LMC (vastly underrated), Usher's 'Yeah'

Dreadful: Eamon and Frankee can go suck on a large one, The Streets (his worst single), U2, Robbie Williams

I reserve the right to not express an opinion about Girls Aloud's mandatory Xmas cover version.
