This was a great year!

- Britney's best single. Also her, like, 10th best single. For some odd reason most people confused these two
- 'Yeah!' "Take that - and rewinf it back; Ludacris got the flow to make your booty go *CLAP*"! Arguably one of the most IMPORTANT singles of the year as it gave us the endlessly brilliant crunk'n'b - Britney's collab with the Ying Yang Twins on her album was awesome but 'Yeah!' was the first big commercial hit, and Ciara took it to the next level a few months later - it's defined r&b ever since
- 'Baby Cakes', a strange and beautiful random throwback to the golden age of 2-step
- 'I Don't Wanna Know' (and the Shola Ama-led reply) are really heartbreakingly lovely ballads, both sung as if through fog, both parties pleading but knowing that the other has made their mind up and isn't listening

On the negative side

- 'Dry Your Eyes' was the song which finally convinced me that Mike Skinner was a total cunt who needed his face stamped on forever
- 'Just Lose It'...you couldn't even hate Eminem for it b/c it was so obviously meant to be shit (and then 'Ass Like That' was even worse!!!)

Mysterious Girl is no better or worse than it was in 1994 (i.e. it is still GREBT!) Actually perhaps it is better this time round because we didn't have to look at his drawn-on 6-pack under the waterfall.

I think this is a pretty poor year compared to 2003 and 2005. However I was for the most part off the Pop Radar this year: no longer working for Island (i.e. photocopying pictures of Busted all day), having no telly at all from Feb onwards, radio tuned solely to Xfm to keep tabs on the competition, no money to buy music. Apart from Toxic there are no huge life-altering songs here for me :(

Really poor selection IMHO.

Good: Toxic obvs, Eminem, Eric Prydz, LMC (vastly underrated), Usher's 'Yeah'

Dreadful: Eamon and Frankee can go suck on a large one, The Streets (his worst single), U2, Robbie Williams

I reserve the right to not express an opinion about Girls Aloud's mandatory Xmas cover version.
