This is a question for people who didn't experience punk firsthand (sorry o wise eldersaurs!)
How did the ideas/legacy/presence of punk affect your listening to and thinking about music?
(I didn't say it was a small question)
And do you still feel it as a presence within pop music and culture? Does it affect current music? Does it affect how you approach the music that came before it?
I'm interested in 'my' generation of listeners (30somethings) but also especially in 20somethings and younger - and in British people especially.

Dropkick Murphys are pretty heavily influenced by the early UK punk concern with strikes and unemployment. Whilst the Toy Dolls aren't particularly...
I mean yes, fair point that there's a definite difference between the early UK punk and some US punk. And that UK punk was probably more important in the UK in the 80s than US punk. But still, UK punk was influenced by earlier US stuff (New York Dolls? Ramones?)
Argh. Head hurts.
This is why I don't like talking about the history of punk and just like listening to it...
Anyway, yes. I like dancing to louder and faster music. I thank punk (or Ramones, or New York Dolls?) for this in some way.
