Most of those bands are fairly blah and I don't listen to them.
I never really see the point of most listened to/popular songs/bands lists. It's really uninteresting to me, I like worst/crappest lists. I'm still waiting for Channel 4/5 to count down the top 100 least successful chart singles, how much more interesting it would be to hear the story behind a one hit wonder that only bothered the charts at number 96 for a week. That would be than hearing why this week's talking heads like Bohemian Rhapsody.
It would be very sad for the dudes to talk about! Esp if your single never even made it to a vinyl release and mustered only 4 downloads which were your mates getting overexcited... :(
But I'd have been overjoyed to make one week at number 99 one week in my life! It's chart history and sorely overlooked. These people should be celebrated and get their proper 15 minutes!
but why? is this 'Britain Loves A Loser' attitude in effect again?!
i mean lots of amazingly brilliant singles only got to between 41 and 200 in the charts but if you want to talk about them it makes more sense to do that outside of charts/popularity context surely.
some sort of round-up of every single that stalled at #41 might be funny tho - except 41 is so arbitrary a number in terms of what just misses out on being a hit so wouldn't spend too long on it.
i remember the Ruthless Rap Assassins earned a mention in one volume of the British Hit Singles book because they had TWO singles get into the top 75 but both peaked at...75 - this means they may technically be the least successful chart act ever in the BHS gan's view because they only list songs that got in the top 75. other acts may have equalled or 'bettered' this more recently tho.
