It's been a while since we trod the walkways of MEGA CITY POP, but Judge Pop's caseload is getting no smaller. This week's candidate for correction is CALVIN HARRIS, the gangly smirker who's brought hipster electro to the mainstream with his archly retro take on etc etc.

Your honour surely this needs no further debate, we have all seen and heard the evidence which speaks for itself - into the BRIG and let us not delay the cogs of justice any further!

Roisin Murphy turned his songs down apparently. WELL DONE ROISIN.

And he's all pissed about it! Apparently they're REALLY GOOD and she is MENTAL for doing so.

Umm, yes! Right. Okay. Calvin Harris, who thinks that shit like his two singles are great on one hand. Roisin Murphy, who did "Sing It Back", "The Time Is Now" and "Forever More", three of the best singles of the last 10 years. I think I know whose taste I'll believe.

I'm REALLY worried about Kelis and Kylie working with him.

Bah, his music may be a bit shit, but he is entertaining in interviews and quite fun and doesn't take himself too seriously so I'm willing to just about let him off.

I don't really like popstars who don't take themselves too seriously. If they don't, why on earth should I? And I don't like it when they try to be funny in interviews because they usually aren't (and C Harris DEFINITELY isn't), or at least not as funny as eg Ciara unintentionally is with her mental corporate speak.

(Haha I just realised that Ciara is also a C Harris! FITE!)

In fairness, his Popjustice interview about popstars being gits was approximately 7 grillion times more fun than any of his 'music'.

Judge Pop Pickles asks.

Who is this... Calvin Harris?

I have no time for this young person's electronic music. I am currently listening to a prog version of "I Want To Be In America", by The Nice. Organ-tastic!

I'd love to be snobby about Mr Harris, as in I would genuinely like to not have to admit to liking him but I have to say, his album's blimmin ace and I've enjoyed both the singles, too.

For the record, I think Roisin Murphy should accept any help possible to make her sound NOTHING LIKE MOLOKO AT ALL COSTS. Which she is doing a splendid job of at the minute but you never know.

It's two hits out of two releases for Mr Harris as far as I'm concerned, both are great. I love the bit in Girls that goes:

And you know that I'm going to play around for sure
[Calvin waits for the perfect golden pop nanosecond]
I did it before!
[Big CLAP!]

Roisin Murphy is a darling and I love Moloko - I hope her new album is great because the single is blinding and appreciably weird. Perhaps she just decided that she doesn't need Calvin to make a great record?

Laptop! That's a big reason why I like Harris, I think. Girls is highly redolent of wonderful lost hit Back Together.

There was some talk about Laptop being the NY equivalent of The Divine Comedy (whom I also love), and I think your speculative criticism of Laptop is proved in the case of Mr Hannon.

Whaaaaaaat? 'I'm So Happy You Failed' and 'Let's Not (But Say We Did)' have wit and malice. All Calvin's singles have is kitsch and repetition. Laptopotomy, maybe.
