Last time, Marc Bolan and his dinosaurs topped the pops of 1971, with Get It On grabbing 29 ticks whilst poor old Mungo Jerry only got two. Onwards now, to a classic year for pop - moptops, boy bands and Cilla Black? It's 1964...

i like cilla's version of anyone who had a heart bcz she just BELLOWS -- as per usual -- and there's a really funny disconnect between the song's call for sensitivity and her delivery, she's like a little britain character

I'm going to go back and tick the Four Pennies now because while it's a bit drippy it's still better than Cilla.

No, no, no! Why do people like 'You Really Got Me?' It is actually one of the ten worst songs EVER possibly. It's so boring it makes my eyes fall out and then there's that awful bit where they're ascending and they draw out the words and ARGH ARGH ARGH MY JUKEBOX HELL.

Actually I am not sure there are any songs by The Kinks that I like. Possibly due to the sheer terribleness of that one.
