A while ago, freakytigger and I discussed how an emergent genre's willingness to magpie up and incorporate well-known pop hooks into itself was probably a major sign of its quality and health. Reggaeton does this spectacularly well, as the mp3s below (sampling Corona, Snap and Deee-Lite respectively) demonstrate:

What is "reggaeton" a mixture of? Reggae and what? I can't think where the "ton" bit comes from.

I download Lorna and King Africa, didn't love either but if I had to pick I'd go for Lorna as KA pretty much ruins the Snap song there for me.

Reggae and I guess dancehall, pop, hip hop, all the usual things...I know it comes out of Puerto Rico so it's probably the Latin equivalent of these things. I don't know why it's called reggaeton though, I think if I spoke Spanish it might be a bit more obvious...
