[Poll #918473]

Coming tomorrow - FOUR 00s seeds up against Salt N Pepa, Xtina, the KLF and Cameo.

I had to abstain from the last one - another of those ones where I'd gladly just have those two go forwards out of all eight (even Buffalo Stance).

In the end I felt a little joy when I checked back and SLTS had popped 1 ahead of EnVogue which I don't think I'd have felt the other way, so I made it 2 ahead.

En Vogue's best single by far - I remember picking it as my favourite on whatever Now! it's featured on.

I do not hate Nirvana.

Haha yet MORE Prince, and again I tick them both! ('Ghost Town' - botherd. 'Tainted Love' - really sick of this, if any song has been overplayed in my lifetime it is this. And it made Rihanna WORSE.)

'Buffalo Stance' beats 'Wannabe' through no failing of the latter but because the former is pretty much unimpeachable.

If I was to make a personal mix CD of my LIFE, 'My Lovin' would be a shoe-in for it. It's the best song here by miles, even more than Neneh. I will never comprehend how anyone could possibly prefer the other. It has the best harmonies maybe of ALL TIME! "Nevergonnagetit-nevergonnagetit; nevergonnagetit-nevergonnagetit; nevergonnagetit-nevergonnagetit; nevergonnagetit - nevergetit! (WO-WO-WO-WOAH!)"

I think the harmonies on the 'Hold On' intro are probably better but I prefer this EV single to that all the same.

I wanted to tick 'Kiss' despite it probably just missing out on my top 10 Prince tracks because it seems so geeeeenius...

but then I thought of the extended mix of 'Tainted Love' with the 'Where Did Our Love Go' bit and it was game over.

I have never even heard the En Vogue track in question (I don't think I've heard anything other than the one on that Girl Power compilation by the Spice Girls wot was my capitulation to them cus it was quite good as tapes to take on school trips go and 'Don't Let Go') but I just ****ING HATE NIRVANA THAT MUCH.

NB: I do think En Vogue are good, it's just generally I go for the track I know in this kind of thing etc.

The En Vogue track is brilliant. You'd recognise it instantly if you heard it on the radio.

Cor, I agonised over THREE of these fites*. Specials was the only no-brainer pick here.

*I can see later rounds becoming torture.

Why DO people like that Specials song? I remember it won some massive ILX poll, and I'd never heard it, so someone sent it to me...and it's this weak, nothingy, faintly embarrassing white-boy skank which is OK I guess, definitely any good at all, but just...meh, completely meh.

Lex, you do not like ska, remember?
From: [identity profile] blue-russian.livejournal.com
Ska for the madding crowd (http://www.guardian.co.uk/friday_review/story/0,,663359,00.html)

As a teenager, I read something similar explaining the song, and so for me it's probably always been an reflexive expression of Anglophilia. But you're right, the song itself really is just kind of meh (although I do like the solos).

For the first time that I can remember in my Poptimists' career, my favourites in the fites were the "most pop" track in each instance (in my opinion)... Prince x2, Spice Girls and En Vogue. Sadly, three of them seem to be losing to "more indie" alternatives. Boo to NINDIE.

LOL at Neneh Cherry at indie. How times have changed

Gosh you gave me a shock - En Vogue are still HOLDING ON! Go, go, go funky divas.

Quite shocked about Prince actually - certainly didn't imagine defeats so comprehensive. Maybe because there's been SO MUCH Prince so far, people have reached saturation point of Prince-ticks?
