The LEAGUE OF POP needs YOU
Jan. 26th, 2007 10:37 amThe League of Pop is an idea for orgafun I had the other day.
Here is how it works:
There are 12 people in the league of pop. Every week, a different one of them gets made a CD by the other 11, who contribute a track each. The identity of the track, and who contributed it, is a secret at the time of receiving the CD. (We make the CD via a view-to-none poll, and I burn it and get it given out - there's a lead time of 2 weeks to get the tracks together) The object of the CDs is to get players listening to music they wouldn't normally, and there may be some kind of rule about this.
The person who gets the CD has to review it on Poptimists, saying a few words about each track and indicating i) whether or not they knew it already, ii) whether or not they like it. Then the contributors and track IDs are revealed.
Because this orgafun is a cunning double play on the idea of a 'league' as in an organisation and a 'league' as in a sporting competition, the contributors will get POINTS each week depending on what the recipient thinks of the track. There will be complex orgafun rules in place about this but we've got ages to work them out.
So this post is asking - do you want to play? I know already that
alexmacpherson is IN, so I need 11 more people. I don't know whether I'll be playing or not. Also if we get more people than 11 interested, we can have either a waiting list for the next game, or TWO LEAGUES WITH RELEGATION AND PROMOTION (gibber).
You will need to commit to:
- Choosing, and being able to email if necessary, one track each week for a fellow player, for the next 12 weeks.
- Listening to and reviewing your own CD in the week you receive it.
Please don't say yes if you can't do these! If you want to play but are away for one week, that's OK, we can make it that your CD is being compiled during your week off.
We'd be aiming to get the first CD reviewed in 3 weeks time, after the Jop polls end, so starting the actual game and track selection next week.
Clearly this is mentalism but it should also be v.good fun and should get some actual interesting music circulating.

Date: 2007-01-26 01:15 pm (UTC)Why just 11 tracks per CD and therefore 12 players per league? Are we assuming lots of epic dance tracks? Or with Sinkah and Julio, maybe 30-minute free jazz workouts? "Hmm, this week I will offer 'A Love Supreme' by John Coltrane..."
More organfun scoring fannydangle can be had by guessing which player contributed which tracks.

Date: 2007-01-26 01:21 pm (UTC)a) it's not too arduous to take part, either from a contributing or listening POV
b) we can fit pretty much anything provided onto a CD.
If it's a huge success we can expand the leagues next time.
