The LEAGUE OF POP needs YOU

The League of Pop is an idea for orgafun I had the other day.

Here is how it works:

There are 12 people in the league of pop. Every week, a different one of them gets made a CD by the other 11, who contribute a track each. The identity of the track, and who contributed it, is a secret at the time of receiving the CD. (We make the CD via a view-to-none poll, and I burn it and get it given out - there's a lead time of 2 weeks to get the tracks together) The object of the CDs is to get players listening to music they wouldn't normally, and there may be some kind of rule about this.

The person who gets the CD has to review it on Poptimists, saying a few words about each track and indicating i) whether or not they knew it already, ii) whether or not they like it. Then the contributors and track IDs are revealed.

Because this orgafun is a cunning double play on the idea of a 'league' as in an organisation and a 'league' as in a sporting competition, the contributors will get POINTS each week depending on what the recipient thinks of the track. There will be complex orgafun rules in place about this but we've got ages to work them out.

So this post is asking - do you want to play? I know already that [livejournal.com profile] alexmacpherson is IN, so I need 11 more people. I don't know whether I'll be playing or not. Also if we get more people than 11 interested, we can have either a waiting list for the next game, or TWO LEAGUES WITH RELEGATION AND PROMOTION (gibber).

You will need to commit to:

- Choosing, and being able to email if necessary, one track each week for a fellow player, for the next 12 weeks.
- Listening to and reviewing your own CD in the week you receive it.

Please don't say yes if you can't do these! If you want to play but are away for one week, that's OK, we can make it that your CD is being compiled during your week off.

We'd be aiming to get the first CD reviewed in 3 weeks time, after the Jop polls end, so starting the actual game and track selection next week.

Clearly this is mentalism but it should also be v.good fun and should get some actual interesting music circulating.

[identity profile] braisedbywolves.livejournal.com 2007-01-26 11:29 am (UTC)(link)
Obviously the goal here is to get [livejournal.com profile] alexmacpherson together with Jel, Carsmile, [livejournal.com profile] bengraham, [livejournal.com profile] justfanoe, [livejournal.com profile] marnameow (hahaha and of course [livejournal.com profile] xyzzzz__) - basically the indiest motherfuckers in the universe.

Needless to say, I'm in.

[identity profile] bengraham.livejournal.com 2007-01-26 11:58 am (UTC)(link)
I'll choose to take that as a compliment!

[identity profile] atommickbrane.livejournal.com 2007-01-26 11:32 am (UTC)(link)
For the next twelve weeks!! I thought this sounded fun but it appears I have "commitment issues". YOU MENK.

[identity profile] katstevens.livejournal.com 2007-01-26 11:36 am (UTC)(link)
ME PLS!

(Anonymous) 2007-01-26 11:43 am (UTC)(link)
I WANT TO PLAY!

This is jel_bugle by the way! I can't log in, because I am at work, and I can't remember the password!

Peace, jel

See, now I'm logged in!

THIS IS A TOP BIT of Orgafun! Well done!

[identity profile] fugitivemotel.livejournal.com 2007-01-26 11:44 am (UTC)(link)
Me! Me! Pick me!

[identity profile] carsmilesteve.livejournal.com 2007-01-26 11:48 am (UTC)(link)
i want no part of this mentalism, thank you ;)

[identity profile] inhibitorylinks.livejournal.com 2007-01-26 11:59 am (UTC)(link)
Whilst I am very much a lurker rather than a poster, and live far far away in Australia, I would very much like in, if that's possible.

[identity profile] inhibitorylinks.livejournal.com 2007-01-26 12:03 pm (UTC)(link)
That would be very ok indeed. Cheers!

[identity profile] bengraham.livejournal.com 2007-01-26 12:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, why the hell not? Go on then, I'm in, and I'm on a mission to disprove [livejournal.com profile] braisedbywolves' theory that I'm one of the "indiest motherf**kers" on here!

[identity profile] byebyepride.livejournal.com 2007-01-26 12:09 pm (UTC)(link)
I think I'm too late to play, but if I've miscounted and there's space left, I'd like to play.

[identity profile] katstevens.livejournal.com 2007-01-26 12:12 pm (UTC)(link)
ps Tom this is grebt orgafun. It might just top the PWC!

[identity profile] epicharmus.livejournal.com 2007-01-26 12:15 pm (UTC)(link)
OK, OK, I'm in.

[identity profile] blue-russian.livejournal.com 2007-01-26 12:29 pm (UTC)(link)
yes, yes count me in (also in the "zip file" category, i think)

[identity profile] jeff-worrell.livejournal.com 2007-01-26 12:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes pls

[identity profile] lockedintheatti.livejournal.com 2007-01-26 01:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Think I've missed the first league by now (and I'm away for 2 weeks in the middle anyway) but if there's a second division I'd like to be in (and could always supply tracks in advance while i'm away)

[identity profile] jauntyalan.livejournal.com 2007-01-26 01:05 pm (UTC)(link)
top plan, but i'd more likely enjoy the spectacle than the taking part.

[identity profile] martinskidmore.livejournal.com 2007-01-26 01:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, I'm in, though by now clearly aiming for the Championship rather than the Premiership.

Why just 11 tracks per CD and therefore 12 players per league? Are we assuming lots of epic dance tracks? Or with Sinkah and Julio, maybe 30-minute free jazz workouts? "Hmm, this week I will offer 'A Love Supreme' by John Coltrane..."

More organfun scoring fannydangle can be had by guessing which player contributed which tracks.

[identity profile] dubdobdee.livejournal.com 2007-01-26 01:19 pm (UTC)(link)
haha what kind of LIGHTWEIGHT wd choose mere 30-min workouts

[identity profile] mostlyconnect.livejournal.com 2007-01-26 01:40 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm pumped about watching this! I feel my participating would lower the overall quality, my competitive instincts would kick in leading to sturgidly-pleasant 3.5 star woolworths pop every week.

[identity profile] piratemoggy.livejournal.com 2007-01-26 02:22 pm (UTC)(link)
I'd be well up for this sort of shenanigans.

[identity profile] infov0re.livejournal.com 2007-01-26 02:38 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm interested, if there's another league kicking off.

I should probably stay out. But an interesting twist on the rules would be that each week three people are chosen to pick a terrible song, and of course the lower the recipient grades the song, the higher the contributor scores.

[identity profile] anthonyeaston.livejournal.com 2007-01-26 04:29 pm (UTC)(link)
i would like to play as well, is there enough space, and can i be canadian and still play

thanks

[identity profile] anthonyeaston.livejournal.com 2007-01-26 04:53 pm (UTC)(link)
i got to do the zip thing, i guess, so if someone could tell me how to do that, and i am assuming a v. wide deft. of pop...

[identity profile] poptasticuk.livejournal.com 2007-01-26 05:12 pm (UTC)(link)
I would like to take part too, please!

[identity profile] lisa-go-blind.livejournal.com 2007-01-26 08:36 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm an American semi-lurker, but I would also like to take part if space is still available.

Blimey: orga-fun overload!! Thrill power to the Max ect ect.
