Four more groups, sixteen more contenders - Eminem in there twice, and a Chic vs Chic contest in Group S.

In yesterday's first groups, convincing wins for G'n'R, Eurythmics, and TLC, plus Nirvana edging "Beat It" by one vote (take a bow [livejournal.com profile] insaneplatypus) and the Beastie Boys just about qualifying as least disliked.

[Poll #913043]

More later - the charts poll is late this week cos I haven't heard the records, it will usually be on a Wednesday though.

Group S was my hardest one yet. I love anything Chic-based. But Vogue is my fave Madge song so it got the tick.

Gwen vs Spice was tricky too!

Strangely non-plussed by almost everything here, in contrast to the last few rounds.

bah, 'Milkshake' is the worst Kelis single. I wish Prince would win.

you forget 'Millionaire'!

Kelis singles in order of quality then - 'Milkshake' would be anyone else's No 1 but this woman is special.

Get Along With You
Caught Out There
Trick Me
Milkshake
Good Stuff
Blindfold Me
Finest Dreams
Lil' Star
Young, Fresh'N'New
Bossy
In Public
Millionaire

the entire top 5 of those make me think Best Song Ever.

have you heard 'Lil Star' yet Tom? I think it has potential to move up my list.

you don't like 'lil star'?!

'blindfold me' is such a tenuous single - never released in physical form anywhere, I think it only counts because some US radio stations picked up on it and a video was made!

i really don't like 'Lil Star' i think. Kelis sounds quite poor on it and Cee-Lo can't save a dull production. i think 'Living Proof' is far better altho not really single material.

In Public loses points for Nas's horrible "The pussy or the mouth, that is the question/Like Shakespeare my erection's the case " ryhme.

Maybe "Jumpin'" will stay at zero votes until Lex shows up, so he can get apoplectic again today :)

It was very nearly Hollaback Girl but then I thought "if I was trapped in a room with just one of these songs could I handle it." I didn't think Gwen would withstand it.

A very rockist set of votes from me this time round. Sorry.

Surprising "Sour Times" is (at the time of posting) just one vote behind "Wannabe" and "Hollaback Girl"!

Yeah I am really surprised at this! And I love Portishead!

I would disagree but not mind Eminem beating them. Ditto for Nelly except that's v unlikely. If Blur take a lead in that group I will throw a fucking massive hissy fit.

Q: not much contest, this is one of DC's best songs - their Writing's On The Wall period is essentially untouchable, even for Nelly and Em, especially for Blurgh

R: Proper dilemma between Lauryn and Kelis - resolved by remembering exactly how blown away I was by 'Milkshake' the first 30 times I heard it, they way it didn't wear off for about two years, and that I prefer other Lauryn songs to this one ('Ex Factor', 'Lost Ones')

S: would be really really hard if it wasn't for the fact that it's VOGUE. Come on, this pwns the world. STRIKE A POSE.

T: V hard but v apt choice between Obnoxious Dumb Fun 96 and Obnoxious Dumb Fun 05! "UH-HUH THIS MAH SHIT" v "YOOOOOO I TELL YA WHAT I WANT WHAT I RILLYRILLY WANT"; "b-a-n-a-n-a-s" v "zig-ah-zig-ah". 'Hollaback Girl', just, only just.

Otherwise this was the easiest one so far. Didn't need to think twice about any of them.

Hmmm, my Group T pick (Aerosmith) looks out of it. May have to switch my vote in order to STOP GWEN.

I dunno, Lex, I find all of hte results from yesterday's poll at least defensible, even if I don't agree with all of them.

There are two in particular obv. Well Nirvana beating MJ is disappointing but mostly because victory was so close, only to be rudely snatched away at the last minute. But that terrible terrible horrendous Guns'n'Roses song beating amazing Dizzee and lovely Desto's and awesome Jaxx = wrong wrong wrong wrong, in so many ways wrong, I am shaking my head in PITY and SHAME here.

OK, I can only answer for myself:

Nirvana - Sorry, but this is one of the very greatest rock songs of all time. I know you don't like rock, but some of us do and this is great. Really catchy too, so it's also a great pop song!

GnR - I don't like that Dizzee song at all, and I'm kinda meh on the Jaxx in general. Which left it to "Survivor" and "Sweet Child O Mine" which I spent way too long deliberating between. "Survivor" is amazing, for sure, but "Sweet Child O Mine" has that powerhouse riff...I went with "Sweet Child O Mine" ultimately, though I switched back and forth a couple times. I think a lot of people here aren't big fans of "Survivor" and went with GnR by default, for what it's worth. I doubt it will make it past the next round. "Sweet Child O Mine" = catchy, cliche though not bad lyrics, good rock singing, best guitar riff ever.

I am ALREADY howling in bitter agony and am mystified wrt this so-called monster riff that SCOM apparently possesses.

it becomes apparent after listening to the first 5 seconds of the song...

sampled to cute boshy effect by Stazi on 'Your Loving Arms' which i should dig out and upload...

Q - Erm, this is the first group yet where all of the entries in the poll are at least 9/10, if not 10/10. Agony here, but I picked Eminem. I feel bad about continuing not to tick Destiny's Child, though I did tick "Bootylicious". (And by the way if you count Destiny's Child + solo work + "Bonnie and Clyde 03", Bouncy is the best singles artist of the decade by far).

R - Ticked "Milkshake", easy. I don't even really like the other songs.

S - ANOTHER extremely tough 4 way battle here, where I had a reasonable argument for ticking any of the 4. I went with "Upside Down" since it has probably my favorite Chic beat.

T - Ticked "Wannabe" barely over Gwen. Not a big Portishead or Run DMC fan.
