Is this a recognisable 2006? Not if yr a Brit voter, most probably. (EDIT: I stand corrected, yrs Grandad.) I'm not sure I've ever heard TV on the Radio (who topped the JP albums list).

Yeah, it's up there. Rock critics like them because it lets them vicariously experience all the cool stuff they didn't get to do when they were actual teenagers.

Oh is it whiny teenage stuff or jaunty teenage stuff? Is this why they like that terrible Art Brut song about seeing some poor girl naked twice, too? God rock critics are pathetic a lot of the time.

It's basically "We went to this party and it was crazy and there was drugs but then things got fucked-up and now my life is ruined and oh I am such a tragic romantic figure, unable to resist this libertine's life even as it consumes me."

I think rock critics liked Art Brut because it was closer to their actual experience--"OMG naked girl, this is a whole new thing!" The Hold Steady's more "world-weary."

Yeesh. Sounds ominously like the kind of thing which might be successful here too.

Wouldn't have said they were anything like The Darkness, like one of the above comments (would have said Bruce Springsteen, which makes it sound even more horrible), but the rest is pretty spot on. I really liked the album briefly and then realised it was a bit shit and I was just wrong.

Can't see it doing well here at all though, it's too 'classic American rock' in its sound and not remotely danceable, which seems to be the indie thing these days.

Ha, my girlfriend has a total crush on Eddie. She noticed the ring though thankfully.

That's too bad about the new album, I was kind of wondering actually. He should write it all based on people's myspace pages.

importantly i ph34r i may have inflicted TEH CURSE OF CARSMILE on them. no band that i have fallen in love with before their first alBUM has come out have gone on to make a second (in fact several of them haven't got as far as the first album...)

It's not really whiny, it's more "man I was fucked-up back in the day, let me tell you some stories about how fucked-up I used to get." Glory Days shit.
