November's top 40 singles step up to the plate (Girls Aloud having won October's poll comfortably - squeezing into joint second place in the overall leaderboard with 28 votes). But how many of them cut the mustard? God I'm hungry...

I'd kind of dismissed the All Saints as both try-hard and mediocre (as per spizzazzz (http://www.spizzazzz.com/2006/09/all-saints-rocksteady-bit-138-trek_21.html)), kind of OK-ish but all the more depressing for being merely OK-ish, but then it got played at Poptimism back-to-back with 'Out Of Space' and for some reason just seemed to fit so much better than it had anywhere else.

MY SISTERS AND ME

it is completely obvious and cheesy but I love the male backing vox (JLC himself?) which come in at the end, harmonising with Madge on this line: when she sings it first it's all about hooking in all those FOCUS ON THE FAMILY type groups, in keeping with Nu Respectable Madge Image, but everyone knows it's really about the gays, and she makes it very obvious.

The chorus is massive, totally anthemic & liberating in the best Madge tradition; closer than I expected to 'My Love'.

Keep white in the office, call it Jerry Heller

The "Oooooh that 50 Cent makes me so mad" allstar 24 MC remix of "It's Okay (One Blood)" is my favourite track released this year.

as a woman on my own I got it goin' on

Sean Paul himself is perhaps not as spectacular as he has been in the past on 'Give It Up To Me'. However this does not matter because Keyshia Cole's verse on the rmx PWNS ALL - so light and breezy and totally offhand and cool to start, like "you want me? huh!", but by her final "oh no!" she has succumbed!

'Easy' is the worst Sugababes single to date

Really piss-awful broing electrorock. Amelle is the best thing about it and only because she sounds endearingly excited about getting her first proper Sugaverse.

BITTER MUCH

This month was rubbish. APART FROM

- The Feeling HOORAY THE SAVIOURS OF GUITAR POP
- The Robbie song which while not Amazing is soooo much better than Rudebox it was worth a tick
- Brilliant Justin & T.I, omg I love this LOADS.

Hahahaahahah the Maccabees haven't got any ticks ahahahah your songs stopped being good in 2004. Actually I just stopped bothering to listen in 2004 when you became all rich and famous and didn't have to share the toilet circuit with the likes of us. I am NOT JEALOUS AT ALL :-)

the Xtina powerballad is a beautiful thing!

'Mercy On Me', 'Oh Mother' and 'The Right Man' are also brilliant powerballads off her album. they are VERY MOVING.

I only have this to say:

The dogs were barking at the new moon/Whistling a new tune/Hoping it would come soon so that they could DIE!

Thank you.

Against all odds I actually think the leaked version of this with genuine Chris Martin vocals is much, much better than the album version. Mostly because it sounds that much more like 'See It In A Boy's Eyes' which I still sometimes find myself humming, and did anyone see Jamelia slag off "Poor" Javine the Slag on Buzzcocks the other week? Eeeeexcellllent.

I refused to d/l the Chris Martin version because I love the album version, but I can hear exactly where his voice would have gone if it hadn't been taken out, and it would have been this awful high-pitched weedy thing (not unlike a dog barking at the new moon) which would have ruined it.

I have decided that Chris Martin is a Good Thing when he is writing songs for other people; the evidence of this and 'See It In A Boy's Eyes' (better than anything on rub new Jamelia album!) cannot be ignored.

Gwen Stefani's 'Early Winter' (virtually the only listenable thing on her new album!) gives me the fear that I might have to say this about the Keane dumpling boy soon.

Ha, I know nothing about the dumplin' Keane boy other than hearing several Keane tracks once and deciding this was worth a tick. Agree that "Early Winter" is the best thing on the Gwen, though I'll prop for a few other tracks as well (including "Wind It Up," whose force is undeniable, which I suppose enhances its unlistenability for those who find it unlistenable).

the Take That song is brilliant.

Mark Owen should be the next Dr Who.

Loads of this is total scrot, then there's some amazing stuff, although 'tis clearly the month for the hearthrug ballad. In fact, I think everything I ticked was at least halfway to balladry, apart from Rock Steady (which is AMAZING, as is the album) and 'I Write Sins, Not Tragedies' which only really got a pity-tick, since I don't approve of this new emo thing of re-releasing your breakthrough song every three months until EVERYONE DIES OF IT (see My Chemical Romance's THREE releases of 'I'm Not OK') but like to hold the fort regarding liking Panic! At The Disco.
