I still think Mezzanine is one of the best albums ever. I haven't listened to it in a very long time though.

I didn't buy Deserters' Songs until many years later in an HMV sale, I couldn't believe I had missed out on it for so many years then promptly got sick of it and ebayed it. FickleKat.

Mezzanine is really good, Massive Attack's finest I think. I also like Deserter's Songs! But never listen to it now obv.

Air should be in the poll. 'Sexy Boy' is HEAVENLY.

I'd heard 'Le Soleil Est Pres De Moi' around Christmas '97 and thought it was amazing but hated 'Sexy Boy' at first for sounding 'cheap' and 'poppy' (i loved it after a few months tho). Then Pete Tong played 'La Femme D'Argent' on the Essential Selection and I thought it was astonishing but overall 'Moon Safari' is a bit too wishy-washy. I should proffer it up for Poptimists Album Science perhaps.

Yes! I liked Sechsy Boy and All I Need before they got overplayed on How Badly Designed Is Your House et al. I still like "You Make It Easy" quite a lot.

That song on DS, I think it's track three, with the Silent Night bit, is cloying and sickly and horrible. There were far better moments later in the album IIRC.

I might listen to it tonight just to check.

While the first three songs are unbeatable, I think the rest of the album isn't quite the pub-rock comedown you remember it being, especially the last song -- "Delta Riverboat Stomp Something". I've heard a live MP3 of a where they ditch the Reich-house and turn it into a Creedence uptempo choogle.

The real horror isn't even Grandaddy so much as MR repeating themselves again and again. They've deluded themselves into thinking that DS (and really, just the second half) was all they ever need to do ever again.

Anyway, DS arrived at a rilly awful time in my life so it is sadly one of things that I can't criticize fairly without tearing my tiny little heart in two.
