That song on DS, I think it's track three, with the Silent Night bit, is cloying and sickly and horrible. There were far better moments later in the album IIRC.

I might listen to it tonight just to check.

While the first three songs are unbeatable, I think the rest of the album isn't quite the pub-rock comedown you remember it being, especially the last song -- "Delta Riverboat Stomp Something". I've heard a live MP3 of a where they ditch the Reich-house and turn it into a Creedence uptempo choogle.

The real horror isn't even Grandaddy so much as MR repeating themselves again and again. They've deluded themselves into thinking that DS (and really, just the second half) was all they ever need to do ever again.

Anyway, DS arrived at a rilly awful time in my life so it is sadly one of things that I can't criticize fairly without tearing my tiny little heart in two.
