well i don't really LIKE it! so it seemed a bit odd to tick it JUST to be fair to it -- yes it is by no means as bad as a lot of the other songs, but also oasis had better songs -- my sister bought this (a VERY rare occurrence) and i asked why and she sed "IT'S GREBT", so i played it a few times to see what i thought and was a bit nonplussed at her regard for it (i had nothing invested pro or con oasis at that stage -- of course the sheer scarring ugly media omnipresence of oasis uk-side hasn't helped)

by unknowns i meant "unknowns to me" -- luniz, filter, joan osbourne, matthew sweet i remember nothing of

("forgottens by me" is possibly closer but i really really was OFF ALL MUSIC in 95-96)

Let's see, Luniz good-not-great reggae-rap amalgam w/ nice Xmas tinkles in the background (I'm a sucker for Xmas tinkles on tough songs; is very crunk). Filter is hardcore punk that has what I imagine to be RAVE tendencies. (Maybe my imagination is askew.) The Joan Osborne is a gorgeous quasi-faux-Appalachian-new-agey singer-songwriter track about God's incarnation as a shlub (or whatever it's about; she's a singer-songwriter so she doesn't have to know what she's saying, right?) that outstays its welcome as her voice gets soggy and the words get cute. The Matthew Sweet is jangly power pop with typical shiteating wallflower vocals but an excellent slashing, dissonant lead guitarist.

Luniz is v definitely great! omg I just realised that 'I Got 5 On It' INVENTED Cassie's 'Me & U' omgomg.

Frank this is not 1995 but have you heard and do you like the new Ciara single?

No, not the new Ciara. Was disappointed by the previous one, though I wasn't altogether sure why I was disappointed. 'S really hard to do delicate-in-a-nondelicate-world and get it right, which she did perfectly in "Oh!"

I thought you liked 'Get Up'? I remember you terming it crunk-pastorale which nailed it perfectly.

The new one is a massive massive departure from her delicate/indelicate aesthetic.

I did like "Get Up," just didn't love it. Having same reaction to the Timberlake singles and the first two Furtado singles (and then I unexpectedly really like "No Hay Igual" and the ridiculously pretentious one she does with that Coldplay goofball).

Whereas Cassie's "Me & U" is on my shortlist for song of the year (but said shortlist already has 50 songs, so "Me & U" prob'ly won't even make my top 10).

I love the Furtado/Martin duet too and am profoundly thankful that "record company issues" meant they had to take his voice off it. 'No Hay Igual' is def my favourite nu-Nelly though.

I'm surprised you don't love 'My Love' more!

I am not sure I can even bother with a singles list this year, like, I've heard about 500 singles worthy of it.
