It is so not lurchy, it's smooth and soft!

i don't think it does 'lurch' but see below for explanation of what i think people may mean.

It's that jump between the first and second 'Good Life' in the chorus, it strikes me as incredibly clumsy. The sort of upward lurch that someone who's randomly plinking out a melody on a keyboard would come up with (except it clearly isn't).

Between the 6th and 7th 'Good Life' in the chorus, I mean.

This was my eighth tick (just ahead of KORITFW, Pixies and De La). It probably hasn't worn well, but sounded ace on the radio at the time.

Actually I think it might be this "lurchiness" you lot are bangin' on about that I like about it!

It hasn't worn well at all, and that's the only reason I didn't tick it. But I loved it at the time even though I didn't go to clubs ever.

I love that jump! It's excitable and joyous and "ooh look my voice can go - up HERE as well!"

'The sort of upward lurch that someone who's randomly plinking out a melody on a keyboard would come up with (except it clearly isn't)'

which suggests to me that K Saunderson knows more about good house riddims more than anyone else in history. his beats on 'Big Fun' and 'Good Life' just have a great shuffle and bounce to them that's ALMOST reluctant as if being pulled along by force of TEH AWESOME VOIB. so there's this sense of 'drag' which i personally LOVE and find v appealing dance-wise but he balances this out elsewhere so the track as a whole cascades quite gloriously.

another example of this 'dragging' sense rhythmically is Basement Jaxx's 'Stop 4 Love' which is completely different in purpose and style but has similar approach rhythm wise, i think.

yes, i agree.

oh course the only sensible way to find out is for me to play it tonight. may i suggest that in preparation for this, you print out the above explanation about 20 times to hand round later :)
