A surprise victory for White Town saw Your Woman achieve 37 ticks last week, making it your favourite No.1 of 1997, whilst Tori, Hanson and the Spice Lasses could only muster 32 each. Elton and his windy candle brought up the rear with a solitary tick. This week we have Dutch painters, Mary Whitehouse-offending metaphors and glam-rock in full swing - it's 1972!

Incidentally, is this the most aesthetically consistent year in #1 history? By which I mean its easier to surmise the prevalent trend in UK pop from this lot than pretty much any other selection of #1s.
