A special poptimists poll to celebrate [livejournal.com profile] jauntyalan's Wedding to Emma, the new Mrs Jaunty. Many of your poptimist correspondents were at this wedding yesterday and danced to a selection of tunes spun by [livejournal.com profile] carsmilesteve and [livejournal.com profile] thebarnetape (with occasional consultancy by yrs trly).

This selection is brought to us by The Wedding Party box set, yours for £8.99 from Amazon. I was going to buy this from Woolworth's yesterday morning but they were out of it so I made some Popular CDs instead. Eagle-eyed readers may spot one (1) track that was not on the original tracklist for this album.

[Poll #818324]

Songs marked with a * were played at the wedding yesterday. As was the, erm, bonus track - whatever that is.

I'm slightly frightened by how many of these I like. SHERIFF FATMAN!

I wanna listen to If I Can't Have You, now. Last time but one I went to a wedding, it was in Norfolk and the DJ started playing BANGIN' CHOONS which, frankly, not only puts two fingers up to convention but unpleasantly inserts a bass tube up its rectum with NO LUBE.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA.

Utah Saints is ok, though. The Norwich equivalent of a Rock The Dancefloor compilation, less so. Unless it's some kind of new-fangled rave wedding. (It wasn't.)

My friend tells me that he wants to DJ at his own wedding, which surely means lots of Bright Eyes and Jandek. Sigh.

Jandek's "Babe I Love You" is a good track, and is clearly a terrible omission from the MEGAMIX above.

I cannot help you, for I have no heart.

Except for that MARVELLOUS icon. Did he have his hands stapled behind his back, in manner of Denis Norden's permanently fused-to-hand clipboard?

DJing at your own wedding is a real vanity exercise that should be discouraged, sez me.

Agreed. I went to the wedding where the bride and groom plugged in a laptop with a rub itunes playlist programmed in. Where's the fun in that? Plus towards the end of the night the bride inevitably ended up spending twenty minutes trying to find the one other song she wanted to hear.

Also, there is no Mariah Carey there, which surprises me.

I am well impressed that the Jackson Sisters are on there. That song's so versatile - it turns up on classic funk and breaks compilations as often as it does cheesy ones.

I have noticed that this is also missing Scatman John. I'm storming out of my own wedding in a huff if I don't get to dance to Scatman's World.

oh oh

The old bald guy dancing to I Feel Love was a total disco highlight. King of the dancefloor.

Sheriff Fatman had me standing agog in both horror and awe. Before I started dancing.

Wait! Was I there without knowing it? Have I suffered from a blackout?
