All of these acts* have been nominated BY POPTIMISTS for their vital contributions to INDIE over the last 12 months. Let the debate commence!

A pedant writes: It's Guillemots, not The Guillemots. HONESTLY.

I like the Young Knives. They wear tweed, they sound a bit like Robyn Hitchcock and a bit like XTC, and their lead singer looks like a supply teacher. Or, if you will, the Asda SmartPrice Jarvis.

i saw young knives when they were calle dpony club (as i imagine a few ppl did round here) and sounded like the pixies, and then the first futureheads alBUM came out...

...i like the HOT summer song though

I think I saw Pony Club once, didn't realise it was them. Seems like every other indie band is just a reincarnation of a failed indie band from a few years ago...

very few ppl make it with their original line-up/band in tact, so there's always some old codger can say, ooh i saw them when they had nowt/a horn section/were all women etcetfc

I remember when one of their sisters/girlfriends/mums/some sort of female connection person rang into Zane Lowe to correct that error. Thank god my radio's stopped working so I've stopped listening to that show.

Anyway. The Young Knives are bloody good, a bit like We Are Scientists only from this side of the pond, aren't they?

TBH, people who make a big thing out of that kind of thing (see also: Pixies, Longpigs) are just showing off. But I have been irked enough by it today to make the point. Stop getting indie wrong!

The Young Knives are more village fete than We Are Scientists. I like them if only for that little 'Tall tales, creeps and whii-spers' in, um, that song of theirs. For all their quirk there's a bit of FM radio pop in there.
