Last week you lovely Poptimist types decided that Return To Sender was the best #1 hit of 1962, with 25 ticks. But burger-munching jumpsuit wearer Elvis also fared least well, Good Luck Charm and She's Not You claiming only 3 ticks each. This week catapults us right into the booty-shaking, lesbian-filled pop-idle current decade: it's 2003!

[Poll #809314]

Is "any good at all" any good at all?

Westlife took a pretty good song and ruined it, but I ticked it anyway, 'cause it's a pretty good song.

Just kidding.

I don't use "any good at all" as my criterion, and I don't believe any of you do either, or we'd all be ticking a lot more. If something is "meh," I don't tick it. Nor do I tick something that's got good stuff in it but also has lots of bad stuff in it or that I actively hate for explicable or inexplicable reasons.

Also, I don't understand why there is so little reaction to Gareth Gates one way or another? Did he go to number one without any or you lisening (which is possible, if you still choose your number ones strictly on the basis of sales)?

Any of you listening, that is.

Well I might tick that song, if the good stuff outweighs the bad. Which would also be one interpretation of "any good at all", although my interpretation is more like "everything except the meh tracks and the unremarkable ones".

I had a feeling of incompleteness listening to this version of "Spirit in the Sky," since I cannot help but connect the words "Spirit in the Sky" to "As Seen On TV!" and to "all this for $19.95, and not only that, you also get, absolutely free..." Perhaps this is an American phenomenon only.

(But I did tick the song. How could I not tick a disco version of "Spirit In The Sky"?)
