Right, after 72 polls and a squidillion votes it's come down to this. In one corner the Pet Shop Boys, in the other Pulp.

I would do pictures of them but we all know what they look like.

[Poll #806433]

Please answer both questions!

Easiest tick yet.

Right. I can't believe it's got this far but now is surely the time to beat Pulp with ticks.

One more chance to keep you satisfied

I forgot to say I also voted PSBs because the video for Always on My Mind doesn't star Sadie Frost.

anyone finding this an easy choice should re-examine their idea of poptimism

alright, anyone who hasn't already ranked their top 5 bands, and each of those top 5 bands top 50 singles, shouldn't find this easy!

:-)

one of the songs is genius pop pinnacle. the other is ok-ish 7/10 second-rate indie bobbins which has long worn thin (and isn't even that band's best song). NO CHOICE.

are people saying 'Common People' is 7/10 for Indie pop, or just 7/10 as a song in general?

cos I do think it is 10/10 in both respects. but i am very, very bored of it (bored of AOMM but not quite as much), if not quite talking about it, yet (sorry Ricky T!).

you're not, you're just the most rnb/urban of all the poptimists. ;)

There were so many GREAT songs in the poll... how the hell did these two make it to the final?

Voted for PSB out of hatred for Jarvis and his Pulps. But seriously, how? Why? What is wrong with you, O Poptimism Faithful?

everytime you tick out of hate, somewhere a poptimism fairy dies

I guess you have to have been there to get this worked up (negatively, anyway) about Pulp. Admittedly I'm a bit tired of "Common People" but I love Jarvis, and always will I think, whereas PSBs I only appreciate somewhat abstractedly. And "Always on My Mind" especially so.

In any case, as more of us should be saying: This final should've been something more like "Can't Get You Out of My Head" vs. "...Baby One More Time."

Thing is, it's not like voting against it will stop people talking about it either.

the most pop person would not have such mean spirited opinion of music made using guitars with male voices.

over serious extension: I just edited out "bigoted" because it's such a strong word, and one likely to upset for rounder connotations, and I don't want to upset you. we are having fun here on poptimists. but your opinions on this do literally often deserve such an extreme description. when you say things like die and kill, and the like. even taken purely rhetorically, it can be disturbing when repeated. and not what i call pop.

Neither of those are as good as either of these.

I found it very easy because I rate Always On My Mind (any version) above almost all other songs ever and the PSB version doubly so.

[livejournal.com profile] awesomewells: The intro is the most joyout 'OMG MUST RUSH TO DANCEFLOOR NOW!' moment in the history of pop

On reading this, I thought you'd recanted and voted Pulp! I definitely can't remember the intro to AOMM.

And by extension, every time I tick out of love, a Poptimism devil pops up, laughs in my face and makes sure that Pulp get through at the expense of many a better pop song.
