Right, after 72 polls and a squidillion votes it's come down to this. In one corner the Pet Shop Boys, in the other Pulp.

I would do pictures of them but we all know what they look like.

[Poll #806433]

Please answer both questions!

[livejournal.com profile] awesomewells: The intro is the most joyout 'OMG MUST RUSH TO DANCEFLOOR NOW!' moment in the history of pop

On reading this, I thought you'd recanted and voted Pulp! I definitely can't remember the intro to AOMM.

another thing that can't tell them apart. they both have amazing, distinctive, euphoric sounds in the first .5 seconds.

I don't know how I didn't notice before that that sound is so similar to the Greatest Second in Indie & Pop (1.47 in)

How is this possible?! Than enormous synth fanfare!

Common People isn't actually very danceable at all for the first couple of minutes.

I've said it before but my favourite thing on AOMM remains that bit immediately after the second "you are always on my mind" where two two-note string sounds move the whole thing upwards (virtually at least).

can't remember but does 'In My House' extend the opening 2 bar 'intro'? i'd love an epic version that just looped that for like 1x minutes!

Theory: There is such a thing as a great intro, and there is such a thing as a distinctive intro to a great song. These things serve the same purpose.

I agree with you in that AOMM intro isn't a particualrly distinctive intro but when it cames in there is still this strong sense of 'HI DERE' re dancefloor, probably more than any other PSBs single at least.

just cos the drums are there from the start and it's very brief on the radio edit - just 2 bars with no significant sonic detail bar the cowbells and that 'grunty' sound.
