I have too much work on to be reading Popjustice, but...

What else is going down the sh1tter before/after its time? After yesterday's 1994 discussion I nominate: decent boybands (eg East 17, 911, NSYNC).

Since you mentioned it, let me use this opportunity to voice something that shocked me years ago. What the hell happened to N*Sync and Backstreet Boys? Indie bands and "rock" groups will stutter along for years with bad, poorly selling albums. Both of those bands essentially vanished at the peak of their career (while Westlife refuses to die). Am I wrong in thinking that neither group so much broke up to break up, as broke up because there was no label support behind new albums? Surely both of them could've counted on a million-seller, even if their audiences dropped drastically.

I guess the members of said bands realised they could make more dosh if they went solo (eg Justin T), and were probably sick of the sight of each other after constant touring/promotion/smiling for camera. Whereas yr rub indie band can concentrate on "writing songs" and were probably mates beforehand so being cooped up in a tour van is not so much of a strain.

The Backstreet Boys are still going, you know! They released a great album last year and had a very successful world tour, even in the UK. It wasn't as popular in the US as their previous work but that couldn't be expected, it still sold well enough for them to be planning another even though Kevin has left.
