After Friday's wranglings it came to me that what we need is some kind of scientific way of working out exactly how pop various acts are. I was going to call this simple feature the POPOMETER but awesomewells came up with a better name.

The idea is very simple - on a 1 to 10 scale, tell us how pop a particular act is. A score of 1 would be given to someone like Nurse With Wound, who are not very pop at all. A score of 10 might go to Britney Spears, or ABBA, both of whom are extremely pop. Over the weeks the results of these polls will build up to a body of incontrovertible evidence as to the popticity of our hott music starz.

when I was "doing" djing at this horrible indie night back in bristol this perfectly perfect emo kid came up and wrote "some deathcab would be NICE" on the requests sheet, with "NICE" underlined and extra-thick so as to appear EXTRA sinister. for ages we talked about getting t-shirts with it on, but then we never did.

that's the end of the anecdote, really.

I think a really good idea for one of those throwaway Xmas hunour books would be "things people have said to me while I've been DJing".

Yes! I was intending to go to Poptimism on Saturday until my sister popped up as she is wont to do and announced she was in London for, like, 2 days and we had to go out. So, yeah.

I can think of so many contributions for that book already. Off the top of my head, my favourite is when the guy with tattoos all over his face told me I could make loads of money in jail as a rent boy.
