Poptimists. We need to talk.

You really let me down yesterday.

Ciara’s ‘Goodies’ is a poptimist touchstone, and Miss Ciara Princess Harris a poptimist heroine on a par with Kelis, Britney, Xtina, Aaliyah, Rachel and Kylie. Yet you did not give her the respect she deserved as the first lady of crunk’n’b. To add insult to injury, she appears to have been beaten by both past-it Chemical Brothers and dreadful indie Killers.

I’m disappointed in you.

Explain yourselves please.

I think your question has been answered, judging by the comments below. It seems to have totally passed most Poptimists by (myself included). I bet it didn't get anywhere near as much airplay/coverage as Toxic or Milkshake, hence it got outvoted by songs like The Killers that everyone knows and many people liked.

Having downloaded it now I can't see what the fuss is about. It's quite a dull record.

Remember Lex, the Now polls favour the "above average" songs as they are given the same weighting by each voter as the "truly excellent" songs. So eg more ppl will find the Killers "acceptable" than will find eg Ciara "astounding", even though I am sure Ciara >>>> Killers.

"press"? even i heard the killers -- bcz they er "rocked up" (©[livejournal.com profile] barnetape)) exactly as TV switched into full gear behind no-po-pu

lex you underestimate the ESSENTIAL LAZINESS of the true poptimist = "bring it to me"

The Killers album sold shitloads and was in charts all year, and they got loads and loads of radio play, even if their singles weren't as big chartwise. Ciara was a quick in and out of the singles chart job early on in the year and was swiftly forgotten.

Yes the Killers were ALL OVER Radio 1 (and indeed EVERY music channel) like a rash.

This is another issue too - a big rock hit like the Killers will be on R1, R2, Capital AND minority stations like 6Music, XFM etc.

A big r'n'b or dance hit will be on R1, *maybe* Capital, and its own minorities. Radio 2 is the most listened to station in the UK.

funny tho - did 'Somebody Told Me' sell as much as 'Goodies'? (probably considering it had been re-released and made top 3) and 'Goodies' was #1 at a quiet time of year as already established.

The "circles" that listen to the two biggest non-commercial and one biggest commercial radio stations in the UK, perhaps?

What are you talking about? Songs about fun things are always LESS fun than songs about unfun things! It's perfectly possible to dance to the Killers - come out tomorrow and see! And there's more drum changes in the Somebody Told Me than Goodies!

I *might* play some Killers but probably not.

Pete I can't speak for.

Steve almost certainly will.

Get the new one YSId someone and I'll give it a listen.

I am still vaguely intending to play only records I have never played at Poptimism before.
