It is TEN DAYS until the Poptimists Pub Quiz.

It is TWO DAYS until voting closes in the Pop World Cup Group G. Voting levels have PLUNGED for this group, for whatever reason, so please do get your ballot in!

It is SEVENTY OR SO DAYS until Eurovision - well done DJ Daz.

It is ONE DAY since Chico topped the charts, I haven't actually heard his song, is it jolly?

It is ABOUT FIVE HUNDRED DAYS since they started doing the download chart - and here's my question: what difference have downloads made to the make-up of the singles chart? (Since around 2/3 of sales are now e-sales, presumably any difference would now be noticeable). My initial partial answer: current chart rules have completely failed to bring back 'climbers', which is what all the old grumps moan about, what does seem to have happened is that songs linger in the Top 40 for EVER much more easily.

It is THREE DAYS since I asked about Prince - here's the official purple kanon:

Welcome to Now 29, the summer of 1994, and The Big One as far as some Poptimists regulars are concerned - some legendary pop tunes, some legendary horrors, the first (and maybe ONLY) appearance of JUNGLE on a Now, the first (and far from only) appearance of WASIS, Kylie at the height of her Select-induced critical acclaim, boyband minnows Ultimate Kaos and 2wo 3hirds, the mighty Whigfield, AND MORE! What can possibly win???

Meanwhile when the dust settled on Now 28 none other than BLUR had won it, by one vote over Salt N Pepa and En Vogue, with Prodigy in third. What does this BODE as the Britpop years get rolling? Much diversity in the Damon Allbran career highpoints - watch for a Friday Canon on this very topic soon.

I feel the air is getting hot )

If I can be bother'd I will do some stats later.

One of the persistent themes in the Now polls is "wow this is my first NOW album" (frantically ticks everything). Another persistent theme is "OK at this point I'd got into indie" (ashamedly ticks nothing). So in the endless search for shared experience let me ask you this question:

How did you get into indie?

and as a bonus question - let's try not to make this too loaded -

If indie is less central to your music listening now than it once was, why do you think this is?

Define the i-word however you like.

I think I have asked similar qns on ILM, but this is a new kettle and these are new fish.
