Pop World Cup shocker: Group A is in turmoil after the manager of Costa Rica entered the LJ Big Brother house, 2 days before their crucial group stage clash. Reports that a KITAN has been left in charge of the Costa Rican national team are currently unconfirmed.

OK really this post is just a reminder to [livejournal.com profile] marnameow, [livejournal.com profile] sbp, [livejournal.com profile] skillextric, and [livejournal.com profile] steviespitfire to get me their group stage tracks & short team talks by tomorrow evening so I can put them on the server.

Meanwhile everyone else can talk about the lack of a Babylon Zoo slot this year - or Madonna's wine label.

Stoopid me only just realised that this image changes every week (how else could it be??) so under here is the text version )

Amy still in the big writing at the top, but it's a joint #1 Joint places look like they are alpha sorted so my prediction that Bouncey would be this weeks #1 sort of came off. EXCEPT SORT OUT YR METADATA PPL - this is clearly not Density's Child, but Bouncey on her ownsome (well apart from that feat. there). Bad mp3 tags withstanding (naughty mp3 sharers in not caring about metadata shoXoR), Bouncey Knowles would not sort any higher than Amy Diamond i spose.

Anyway... *scans down the top 10 tracks*, Robyn, yup, Rachel, sure , The Chirpy Chappies, Ashlee, right... HANG ON

The Chirpy Chappies "Girl, You Know It's Shrewsbury". Not only is this transparently a "comedy record" only played 4 times by poptimists - but lastFM sez that only 5 ppl have listened to it ever. I SMELL A CHART FIX. Own up whoever you are.

Maybe when the UK charts first started in '52, Al Martino's agents spotted a flaw in the low sample size, that only 20 people were buying records anyway, and quickly went round and bought 5 copies of his smash "Here in My Heart" thus assuring an early sensation for the strange-haired crooner. This does not make it right.

The summer of 1989 getting going and a very intriguing Now - two previous winners, a Bond theme, Fat Goth Bob, Soul II Soul and JIVE BUNNY!!!! battling for your kind affections and ticks. It's all going off in 20 different pop directions - which horse do you back?

Have pity on poor Erasure, meanwhile, who lose out in a second play-off as Yazz takes Now 13 by one vote. Now 14 was won at a canter by Neneh Cherry's "Buffalo Stance", acclaimed in the comments box as one of the great achievements of the 20th centry. The Fine Young Cannibals, Inner City and Paula Abdul provided cursory resistance. Opprobrium descended largely on M.Ball and Simple Minds (who are back again for more this time).

To the votemobile - let's go!

Digging through the Tunisian part of the interweb to find Top Tunies [DoUC?] for the Pop World Cup, the manager for said country was very sad to have to let Da Arab MC's go - on account of them being Israeli Arabs, not Tunisian. Even though they are on every Tunisian hip hop site around (and there's a few of those, I now know).

Anyhow, as israel is not in the World Cup, there's no harm in posting a YSI to their video for "Born Here". Militant pro-Palestinian rap, but none of that fashionable terrorism-condoning nonsense that gets you a 300+ thread on ILM. Rather, theirs is a positive message: we were born here, so we'll stay here, thank you very much. Now let us build houses please.
