An entertaining Guardian article!!

THRILL! At the bloke from Hard-Fi being an kn0b. GASP! As Mylo puts the smackdown on Devendra. GRIN! At the classical bloke enjoying his italo disco. CRINGE! At, well, Devendra again. Also features LADY SOV content for [livejournal.com profile] katstevens.

I need some more pop icons.

There are two NO places left in the pop world cup. Blimey! Thanks for the orgafun enthusiasm!

Here's the list of managers and some seeding details (in true FIFA style some of the seedings are debatable):

Throwing their hats in the ring )

THE DRAW: The historic Draw for the Pop World Cup (i.e. who manages which team) will take place on Tuesday 10th January at 7.30 in The Shaston Arms, Soho, London. Participants and neutrals welcome but it's quite a compartmentalised pub so if lots of people are planning to come there might be a venue change.

The list of managers will go up here on Wednesday 11th and then the Group A match takes place a week after that. (If you know now that there's absolutely no chance of you nominating a song before the 18th let me know that and I'll make sure you don't get a Group A team.)

An unusal week for obvious reasons, and this week's "Iron Maiden - Bring Your Daughter to the Slaughter" slot is filled by... ROOTS MANUVA:

poptimists Last.fm Weekly Tracks Chart

He's reet proper. Not yr typical Poptimists #1, but that's what Januarys are for. So when is that Jose Gonzales track out then?

Join us on http://www.last.fm/group/poptimists - i promise not to kick you off. Unless you are called Pete.

A note for new Poptimists: Winner Stays On is a pop duel where two relatively current songs fight it out for yr love. The winner lives to fight another day, the loser is lost to the pallid embrace of history.

Robyn is currently the Winner who stays on, winning by a couple of tenths of a point over Ladytron. For today's match we have a real actual NEW RECORD, in the form of Beyonce's "Check On It", which also features Slim Thug (and whose newness is questionable as it was a bonus track on Destiny's Child's #1s album). Are we sick of Robyn yet? Has Bouncy still got it? Vote here:

[Poll #646703]

"But I haven't heard the songs yet! you cry. Full members of Poptimists should keep their eyes on their flists, watchers and lurkers will have to hear the tunes on the radio or vote on prejudice alone, or something.
