No Spoilers

One reason I don't read music reviews much: if there's something really good in a record - a lyric or moment or inflection or bit of 'punctum', whatever you like - it's tempting as a reviewer to write about that. (Right?)

But then doesn't that moment lose its impact for the person who listens having read? Or - worse maybe - gets too much emphasis or impact?

Should reviews come with spoiler warnings? Should reviewers avoid quoting particularly great lines? How do you feel when a particularly good writer infiltrates your hearing of a song?

Our friends at Now squeeze the lemon of 1988 for one final time in a compilation perhaps most notable for the sequencers allowing their granite mask to slip for a DO YOU SEE moment at the end of disc 2. To my eyes few golden greats but a melange of covers, ill-judged revivals, former Go-Gos, new boy bands, big hippie goths, lip-synchers, blondes, thick accents and Level 42 that should at least provide fertile comments box mulch.

Now 12 saw Salt N Pepa and S Express run neck and neck for a good 25 votes until "Push It" pulled ahead. Tiffany and the Timelords close behind, Sabrina beaten by Morrissey. Glen M and "the Wets" (o horror) fighting it out for worst. Lu Cont vs The Beatles? Tomorrow Never Knows, Hey Jude, ROCKTOPUS' Garden, Free as An Bird. Oh dearie.

I'm gonna be the man who gets drunk next to you )

OK, so I only did this at the end of last week, but the LastFM charts, like all well-behaved charts, go from Sunday to Sunday, so that was late. So here is the new official Poptimists Top 10 for last week

WHO?

Perhaps you are not familiar with Amy Diamond [website], but she does feature on Absolute Music (actually #48 no longer available there), which appears to be a Euro NOW series, and obviously someone in our (21-strong now!) last-fm group is keen on that one track. That rather good track list in full - with 3 previews of tracks for last-fm'ers

Pure poptimists fodder, as she is Swedish. Well done Amy.

My top prediction for next week? Bouncey fo sure.
