As everyone knows, country was pop before pop was pop, and there's nothing more pop than TRUCKIN SONGS. So have a week's worth of them, starting today with:

Dick Curless - "Chick Inspector"

This is encoded at the lowest bitrate known to mankind and as such sounds like it was recorded in a shoe. But you will certainly get the gist of this song. "I prowl the Interstate / Checkin' up on trucker bait"

It is left ambiguous as to whether the chick inspector is operating in an official capacity.

10-4 good buddies, (until tomorrow).

QFX - Freedom

UPLIFTIN' handbag happy house thing from north of the border, hands in the air time! [livejournal.com profile] katstevens and other afficionadoes of 90s dance may well approve, though this lacks that essential component the rapper, going instead for all out rave euphoria. WHISTLES OUT.

'The institution of music -- all music -- is more conservative than any individual examples. Hearing sound, or finding new contexts in which to play music, is what seems more interesting than any argument about certain musics being right or wrong, conservative or progressive. I don't have a theory to resolve any of these thoughts; simply the desire to maintain an open way of listening.'

David Toop, The Wire issue 261, November 2005, p.114.

Is this a poptimist position? Discuss.

one of the reason i MUST WRITE UP my MARK S LESSON on UNICORN = the continued annoying afterlife in the FALSE MEME than early t.rex wz a strand of folk hippyism

actually listening to these records -- esp. as. contrasted eg w.dreary dullards like the INCREDIBLE VERY USELESS STRING BAND or TRAFFIzzzzzzzzz --- proves that i. tyrannosaurus rex never sounded remotely like anyone before them, ii. the lyric content of bolan's songs (lets have sex w. anything mythical) never really changed iii. they were better than and difft to all the folk rock that came after also (in particular NICK "I am rubbish compared to my talented sister" DRAKE)
