actually listening to these records -- esp. as. contrasted eg w.dreary dullards like the INCREDIBLE VERY USELESS STRING BAND or TRAFFIzzzzzzzzz --- proves that i. tyrannosaurus rex never sounded remotely like anyone before them, ii. the lyric content of bolan's songs (lets have sex w. anything mythical) never really changed iii. they were better than and difft to all the folk rock that came after also (in particular NICK "I am rubbish compared to my talented sister" DRAKE)

When I said this earlier, about them being part hippy-folk, I was thinking more along Donovan lines than Incredible String Band, let alone Traffic (how did they get in here?). Also, acoustic guitar = folk, attraction to magical = hippy, QED.

traffic got in here by being rubbish folkie hippies who v.early t-rex are better than --- the idea that donovan and bolan have anything in common is quickly dispelled by actually listening to either of them (donovan - mimsy pop folk/early t.rex = RIGOROUSLY WEIRD)
