It's MONSTERS vs MINNOWS in the latest Now poll. In one corner, a huge wedge of the songs that made Poptimism great (and made 2003 the most exciting year EVER according to the demographics poll) (full results to follow) (ahem). In the other corner, a parade of horrors as reality pop turns horribly wrong. Plumb in the middle, "Cocks More Like" by the Coldplays.

Sugababes' "Round Round" topped Now 53 fairly easily, 4 votes ahead of Ms Dynamite: they also won the Now 52 tie-break, so good for them. Can they make it three Now polls in a row? No, is the short answer, because take a look at the competition...

Points of order

- Turin Brakes did have a good song, but this isn't it
- Massive Attack single was best thing off a substandard album, by no means bad but lacking any sort of pop bits like in eg Unfinished Sympathy/Protection
- I cried when I heard the Mock Turtles remix on the vodafone ad as it was a much loved song of Mine Youth and they had to go and ruin it.
- This was the year I was working at Island and saw Sugababes release an ace album/Kym Marsh get dropped like an stone/Busted go supernova from behind the scenes (ie YEAR OF ACE)
- Justin Timberlake is a v good dancer but not a v good singer

No. It was *ever so slightly* different. Tho saying that thanks to Grace I grew up listening to the extended 12" mix with EXTRA DELAY PEDAL MIDDLE EIGHT(Y).

Yep there were two versions used on the ad, but the first one wasn't right either. Or perhaps my rose-tinted specs are coming into play.

I disagree. They had two good songs, and this was the second. How can you resist those guitars? Even I want to dance to them!
